    Re: TOP ON TOP OFF

Finally, I was able to vote on this poll today. CaptainKen and I took the hardtop off by ourselves for the first time. Getting the top off was easy. Chasing that rack around the garage was something a little more challenging.

      Took the hardtop off Sunday.

While I'm very happy to get rid of the hardtop rattle, the car seems to ride a little less solid without the extra 80 pound top. Seems to shake a bit more over bumps in the road.

We finally had a great day here in Tennessee yesterday. 79 degrees and we finally let the top down and took a wonderful ride on the backroads if Tennessee. We stopped at Chili's and had a Margaretta to celebrate. Cheers

Took my hard top off two days after buying the car and sold it on e-bay within the next week ! I'm the original tru-blue convertible man. My T-Bird is the 32nd convertible I've owned since high school and who needs a hard top in Florida ?

Ralph you are truly a rare old bird. I guess drivin that TBird is the fountain of youth. We should plan on a birthday caravan on July 6 for the 86th. So how much did you get fror the hard top. I like the hard top look but love the convertible & you never know when you might need some extra cash. We're in Clermont near Orlando. Where is Beverly Hills?

Jerrym3, with the hard top off there is a little more cowl shake in the body. The hard top bolted and clamped in place makes the body more rigid, it's not the weight of the top. Just something you have to live with when driving a convertible.

Aren't we missing a category where we enlist the help of a neighbor or a nearby family member?

                Put me in that one.

Jerry Yeah I found out after I started this poll that I should have had more choices.

Wow! Such a fuss! My father-in-law, 86 years old and a real "handful", after lowering the top from the garage overhead, tried to get the rear metal plate out from under the rear part of the top. So he took a 2X4 and a small crow bar and started prying. Chunks were flying everywhere.

Leave it off, you have heated seats if the top is down and it starts snowing...what else do you need?

                          Re: TOP ON TOP OFF

I have an interesting story. During the great triple hurricane hit of 2004, I lost one of my out buildings (among other things like roof, etc). Well after the insurance company had me well bent over, I didn't have enough money to replace that outbuilding. Everything else got fixed. I had kept my riding and push mowers in that out building. Naturally my garage was then used to store all that stuff. I simply didn't have enough room to store my top. So the top stayed on for 2 years straight.

Well, I now have replaced that out building and all the stuff that goes in there has been put back. Today I took my top off for the first time in two years. I was quite surprised in the body flex with the top off. Quite a difference IMHO. I prolly need to get underneath and retorque all the fasteners, particularly the x-brace. But still, I doubt that'll take all the flex out.

Glad to have my convertable back.
