Re: To Change Or Not To Change

I would like to have a lighted vanity with a larger mirror and the oil and water instruments. On the 02 I wish it had an electrical fan, but then I wouldn't have any way to check the tranny fluid. I may add the electrical fan late this summer, and if I can find a way to add some lighted sun visors, I'll do that too.

Re: To Change Or Not To Change

My Bird is such a lovely sight
I often pet it with delight
But soon begins a nasty fight

My wife, observing, starts to swear
'Cause when she sees my passion flare
She's jealous more than she can bear

      I say, "Now, dear, you know what's true;
I do not love it more than you!"
She listens not, but bids adieu.

So then my guilt will start to swell
I'll sell the Bird so tempers quell!
But wait! Instead, I shall this tell:

"My sweet, you bring my heart such joy
But men, you know, must have a toy
I've dreamt of this since I was boy!

Now, I'll ignore my Bronze '05
Just to keep our love alive
I'll think of you when next I drive."

That seemed to put the fight to rest
But do you know what I love best?
To put those mufflers to the test!

So wife is glad, at least for now,
That humbly I have shown her how
Above all else, to her I bow.

But deep inside, it still is true
This one great thing I long to do
Drive my Bird off into the blue.

Re: To Change Or Not To Change

        This is a fun read.
I would have gone for a more upscale interior. If an all white interior like the 007 was available instead of the partial white like I have I would have wanted it.
Auto dim and compass on the mirror
        Retractable hard top
        Super charger
But I also love it just the way it is.
Just wish it came with a more upscale garage to put it in.

For styling no change whatsoever. There has been no car ever built as beautiful. Would love to have turbo or better yet super charge options. Only other thing would be softer leather seats.

I like "LVERA" just as she is but I would love to have a chrome grill instead of the painted one. Maybe I will get that changed out someday.

I agree with what most have to say about what was missing when we bought our T-Birds, the XLR has all that stuff, check it out here; Click on XLR roadster at the top:

That is the only other production convertable I would be interested in. $$$
I have had the oportunity to take one out for a ride, it was pretty hard to give it back; it was very easy to enter and exit and its loaded with all kinds of bells and whistles, some of which should have been included in theT-Bird in my opinion.
With the top down you do have room for at least one golf bag and some other stuff, with the top up you have a lot more room in the trunk then we have.

Why do you think the 02-05 Thunderbird does not have a true dual system? Not only does it has a true dual system, the factory system (at least on the 05) has a H pipe configuration for equalization between banks. This is something the after market performance exhaust system available for our cars does not have but should.

The Magnaflow system for the LS has a true X pipe config. aft the cats and before the first set of mufflers. Wish that was available for our Thunderbirds but the LS has the extra length to allow this where I guess there is not enough distance between the lead pipes and mufflers to do this on the Thunderbird.

                        Would like:
                        1. 300-325 HP without supercharging
                        2. full instrumentation (oil pressure, voltmeter)
                        3. aluminum center stack with pattern to match other interior aluminum trim
                        4. aluminum sill plates pattern to match other interior trim
                        5. a little better looking grille - inset mesh aluminum/stainless steel maybe

                        Thats about it

Re: To Change Or Not To Change

I'm happy with my 2003 Thunderbird. However, after we bought a used 2001 Mercedes SLK 320 for my wife last fall, I've fallen in love with the retractable hardtop. In retrospect, it would have been a nice feature on the Thunderbird too.

Re: To Change Or Not To Change

I started lusting after the new Birds in 1999 when they put a yellow one on the cover and said teasingly priced around $30,000. Around $40,000 when it finally was produced in late 2001 for the 2002 model year. If they had done what we all would prefer, it would have been around $50,000 and they never would have been sold for 4 years. I waited until the 2005 was the last model and bought a "certified" used with around 10,000 miles on it. I love the light sand Top and interior and I think the car has literally changed my retirement. For example, after you get compliments about the car, you realize that strangers are looking at you and your car. I know, I know, Dot doesn't think they ever look at the driver but come on! Would you drive to the store in your worst looking dirtiest clothes in a sparkling clean shiny Black TBird? I don't think so! It took me about 6 months to realize, I looked like c**p in my car. So, I went on a diet, lost 20 pounds, started exercising more and grew a goatee. Now I feel like I belong in "Annie", and I'm not just pretending to be a TBNer. I'm going to MoTown Thunder, I'm having fun!
My car has changed everything! How many of you feel that way?
