I believe the # 1 Production Bird (used to belong to G. Watts till he passed away ) was VIN P5FH100005 and the first production car. There is a 1955 Bird that is VIN P5FH100004 (documented by Ford) in PA. ,and what would it be worth ?

I stated in another thread my prediction and I will go out on a limb here and predict 2.2M. Based on what I saw last night, there are obviously many who have not been impacted by the recent events in the economy.

I think you're right...those folks are no way impacted like we are (read me). While I get up thanking God I have a job to go to, they no doubt get up and just count their money. My guess is it will be somewhere b/t 1 & 2 million.

I'll stay with my estimate of $500K, and I would think it would sell to a musium of some kind. General Motors got rid of some real nice cars from their collection that went pretty cheap I thought. But they save the best for last, Saturday and Sunday you'll see the big bucks come out. Leroy

Last night, long before this poll was started, Charley & I turned to each other at the same time & said, "Bet it goes for more than a million"!!! Looking at the docket, it will probably be on the block about the time we're at our Tidewater TBN dinner, so I'll have to wait to find out!

It would also do well. I think CTCI considers it a preproduction car as it was built about 2 weeks earlier than the 005 car. It could have been built to test the production line out.
I'd have to look back in the old CTCI magazines, but I think one or both of the original fenders on the 004 car originally had indent shapes where the fairlane trim could have been on it. either that or I'm confusing two different articles from that time period. It's been a long time since I read that article.

MObird, Yup! That's what they said on Barrett-Jackson last night when I saw it on the Speed Channel. You can look at Barrett-Jackson.com, just click on the cars for Saturday's Auction at Scottsdale, AZ and check Lot #1295, I think they give an estimated time it will be up for auction. Check out the pictures and the discription too while your there. Leroy

See my post on the other set about this car. In 2005 the car was insured for $500K. There must be a reserve that the current owner (probably Watts' daughter and her husband) have set. I'll bet they won't sell for less than $1 million.

I think I heard on Tuesday night that the sellers were not given the choice to put a reserve price on their entry in the auction. I thought I heard that these viehles are being sold without that selling protection.

Am I correct? or did I not hear correctly.

All cars are sold , "NO RESERVE", but the buyer is allowed to buy back and just pay seller's commision!

Dot: Two weeks earlier would be correct. The Watts Bird was Sept.9th. 1954 and the Barnes Bird was Aug. 25 1954 (25H). I have a photo copy of the data plate for that one as well as some pic's I took when it was displayed at a car show just south of Allentown PA.
There was also a good article on this 'Barnes' Bird in the second edition of 'Thunderbird Illustrated' back in 1975.
