I'm a little late on this topic regarding firmware (PCM) update. I have shared some of this on baldybirds COP forum.
I agree with merlot4, worth the money I spent to get the upgrade.
I took my DSB to the dealer for the COP problem I was having at 28k miles. 2 hours later the Service Writer called saying there is a update for the PCM, and wanted to charge $114.00 because the bulletin I presented does not state the update is part of the COP warranty repair. I negotiated 1/2 price, and thought I negotiated a FAIR price... Then I checked TBN forum, which I should have done 1st, and somebody got it done for free as part of the COP warranty. 8-(
Don't underestimate the good you guys are doing on this site- maybe the poll could have been more precise but hey- the fact that we can all be more informed by learning from each others experiences is a major plus. We didn't have this kind of thing in "the good ole days"!
I've been very fortunate, my 2004 had the latest & greatest update according to some list (probably in the link listed) so no, I didn't need an update. I may pay up for an SCT device, it seems like I'm hearing alot of positive comments about them.
No COPS problems either but keep up the good work. Always interested in viewing everybodys comments even if I don't agree. It's a great country to live in! I always feel bad for the folks that struggle with their birds. I imagine it takes alot of the enjoyment away. Mine goes down the road so fine- I just love it!
My Bird is at the dealership right now having a new ac compressor unit put in (thanks ESP). Had the dreaded yellow / green oil drip on the garage floor. I had them check and indeed there is a PCM update for my 2004. Due to all the positive comments about the update on the forum, I told them to go ahead and update it. Sure hope it's worth the money.

Brian, reference to your compressor, I had the same drip on the garage floor from my '03. My mechanic, who is not at a Ford dealer, fixed the leak with a $1.00 new seal, and labor cost was nominal. Replacing the compressor is pricy.
