Not sure what you mean by this but in Pa. it's only $36.00 a year for that. I guess Pa. gets their TAX $$$ in other ways, like school taxs.

In Ohio it is about 40.00 dollars if you don't have a vanity plate. Add another 35-40 for a vanity plate and you're good to go.

If you mean what I think, car registration in NC is $20. Vanity plate $40. Trucks a little higher, trailers (like boat) a little lower.
Now, we also have yearly property taxes, which is dependent on both the tax rate in you county+ city and also on vehicle value. Also sales tax at time of purchase.

When you say register your car I think of the total cost for the initial registration. Va has a 3% sales tax which equals $1200, plus another $58.50 for miscellaneous charges. The county tacked on $80 for what they called "Dealers Business License Tax" for a total of $1338.50 to register MS TBIRD in the state of Virginia. Then its $39.50 per year to renew the tags.. Lloyd

Actually, I mean what does it cost to purchase your tags each year. It sure looks like some of you get off very cheap. I have to pay 700+ for the first few years then it starts to get less expensive as the car gets older, but only slightly.

A tax by any other name is still a tax. If tax (in VA they call it a property tax) is high, the tags renewal is probably low. If your state has no property tax, then they will sting you with high "tag renewal".
I think you need to reword poll as "what do you pay each year to the government for the pleasure of driving your TBird" (no matter what the payment is called).

Maryland has an initial sales tax on the purchase of 5% (mine was $1,660) plus a tags & title charge. The title charge is a one-time charge for the pleasure of printing a title and the tags need to be renewed every two years at $48 per year. After the initial purchase it is not as bad as other states, but Maryland has higher income and property taxes than other states. It all adds up to a big OUCH!!!

Mine, in MD, were about $130 for two years because I have vanity tags.

I just paid $436. $391 of that was for the yearly tax, the rest was tag fees.

Since DavidA and I live in the same State/County my tag will be about the same as his I guess; I won't know until March.

                              DrtiBird:

Are you going to just skip Thanksgiving and Christmas and go right into Valentines Day?

With your avatar it looks like you can hardly wait to pay those tags in March.
