  • really y'all... you are making this way too hard. this morning i took a blank cd, drilled 4 holes in it that were spaced so that they were just wider than 2 uprights in the grill and wide enough for one horizontal... see picture. then i used 2 nylon ties which are cheap and easy to use. total install time was less than 5 minutes. then i drove to atlanta for the papasito's III luncheon. I was hoping to show it off but the rain was pretty heavy and we had some serious eating and talking to do. my cd did not move a bit and worked like a charm. i think that a metal badge with a rubber type backing as a gasket using the nylon ties is the simplest way to attach. no foam gets in the way.
it's kind of hard to make out as i took the picture in the dark with the flash. i'll try and get a better one later. i do think that the cd at 4.5 inches is too big. more like 3.5 or 3 inches would do.

    • seeing as hou you drilled 4 holes... 4 loops like i drew B4 may work better than 2.... thanks for testing out my idea! i hope we can all agree on something and get this done no matter what way we decide to go. i think the badge will look hot. drew

      • yes... i'm pretty sure that 4 is the way to go. capturing 2 uprights and one verticle assures no movement. and it is so simple!

        • Think I have a lot of reading to catch up on this thread but here's my 2 cents worth so far. Design is good - 3" size is fine.

My classic T-bird club in the Seattle area is planning to have grill emblems made this year. In the presentation made to the club members at the January meeting, it was mentioned that the company that is making the emblems has redesigned their grill emblems for other T-bird clubs to fit the new T-birds, ie, longer posts for mounting. We'll be ordering one for our 57 and possibly one for our 02.

The club has to order a minimum of 50 to keep their costs under $20/emblem. I would have to read more of the previous posts to give any other input. (I've only read the last 30)

          • Dot even with the longer mounting posts wont that put the badge too high? The top 1 almost 2 inches at the top of the grill is open and a longer posts isn't needed and my guess the badge would be above the nose skin. Mounting 2 inches or more below nose skin runs into foam and solid metal to bottom of grill. Has the manufacturing company realized this or am I totalyy missing or over looking something?

MrZippy are you saying to let the nylon zips show on the front of the badge?

            • The mounting post Dot is referring to is exactly what is on the badge Jerry put on his car and posted here. It was lengthened to accommodate the grill depth of the new TBirds. There is only one post. Jerry used a wingnut behind the grill to tighten it. He put a clear piece of vinyl cut to fit the badge between the badge and the grill for protection of the grill. While it wasn't the easiest installation, mostly because of limited space behind the grill for tightening the wingnut, he was able to place the badge where he wanted it on the grill, and it is very secure.

              • So where are we in this process. Did the MOD Squad have their meeting about this badge and what has been decided?

What design are we going with and how big?

We need to move forward and I would like to try and have mine for Desert Thunder this March.

                  • The "Mod Squad", as we are now referred to, has asked JerryP to head up this project. He will be assisted by Thunderbubba. Their conversations and research is already well underway. As for making your March deadline, I cannot address that. We suggest that you watch this thread for updates.

                        • I'll post more on the subject this afternoon. I'm unfortunately at my job and available time is limited. I have several volunteers, who stepped up, and they have already been contacted. We will begin the project immediately and once the badge drawings are completed ( in the necessary format for the manufacturer), I will be able to give some proposed dates.

Based on the attachment methods the badges could range from $25 to $35 not including shipping. There is an initial setup fee that will be passed on to the buyers. The more folks that buy, then the cheaper it will cost each of us.

I'll post a thread a little later for committing to the order. You can order more than one if you like. A lot of folks will place on one their car and a lot of folks like to mount them on wall plaques (for Keepsakes), etc.
Right now, a safe assumption would be to base the cost on the high side and maybe we can get the price down, depending on the number of orders. I will need at least a commitment for 50 badges prior to ordering any badges.

This may be a one time run, so please don't get left out.

Don't state your intentions about ordering on this thread. You'll get the opportunity later.

                          Thanks for your patience,

                          Jerry
