So we know that stainless steel can be chrome-plated. Has anyone chrome-plated any aftermarket S/S trim for their Thunderbirds?
This means if and when a S/S surround for the grille is made, it too could be chrome-plated. I don't know what the cost would be, but it would increase the total cost of the mod.
Of those who have voted for a new S/S grille surround, does anyone plan to have it chrome-plated? It might be interesting to compare the two, side by side.
Sounds like we're getting SS. I'm ok with that..at least it will match the other SS.....12 and growing..I'm assuming 3M tape? did any one measure the lip???

Just to clarify; the stainless used to make the parts comes on a 4'x8' SS sheet. It already has the 3M double sided tape on it, so chroming is out.
Of course if an individual wanted to take the tape off, get the part chrome plated and then add 3M tape, that's their choice.
Interesting point George. I didn't know that the 4' x 8' sheets already had the 3M tape on the back side. Makes sense, as trying to cut and apply tape to each S/S piece would be very labor intensive and not nearly as 'clean' or accurate as having the adhesive backing already in place.
Given the general acceptance of the highly polished S/S trim, I'm not sure why anyone would want to chrome the stainless, but as you said, it could be done.
Wanted to give everyone an update on the stainless steel grille surround project.
The initial measurements have been taken and a template is in process. Due to the supplier's holiday schedule and other projects ahead of the Thunderbird, we won't see anything until after the first of the year. Additional fittings and measurements will probably be needed before a production part is available.
Thanks again to George 'Matbird' for braving the inclement weather to drive his T-Bird to the supplier for initial measurements and the template. This project would be nowhere without him.
I'll post updates here as the project moves forward.
Phil:
I checked in again this morning and they still have a number of programs going on. These were in process before my visit to the shop.
However, after checking in with them this AM, it appears that early January may happen. They know my offer to come here for that first fitting still stands, so I'll keep the driveway plowed
They also confirmed that they will be closed until after the New Year.
