Not according to this formula which was recently discovered scribbled on the walls of an old barn. If you run the mod vs no mod numbers through this equation I think you'll be surprised at the results:

Bill, I'm sure DavidA would love to help Leroy with a pristine aluminum dash kit for his car. It would definitely keep up the value of his mint car since it is not a stick-on mod. Plus the dash kit is removable and would make his car 100% stock. Maybe if Leroy came to Dearborn, David would take time to install a dash kit on his car.

Pat, Heck all I know is that Leroy in Indiana is just down the road from Dearborn and I sure hope he comes as I'd like to met the gentleman.

I'd also like to view the discussion of his and David A about modifications and future Bird values. I'll bring the Crown Royal if someone brings the Scotch. Maybe Dot will consent to be the moderator. Know I wouldn't miss it.

Leroy, if they are on the car, they are a mod whether you stick them on or screw them on. Which makes them JUNK !!!!!

Sorry Ray, But you have also miscalculated the exhaust tips. They are Stainless Steel and not glued on. They're held in place with Stainless Steel screws, easily removable to make the car look 100% stock.

You must have plugged your numbers into the formula.......one of one, perfect condition, low mileage, never driven in rain or snow with no stick on junk, other than the non OEM stick on exhaust tips. You are sitting on a gold mine my friend!!!! I'm glad you found the formula worthwhile. Happy New year!!!

My investment in my car is certainly not for monetary gain. I know if it were up for sale, it would be the last one on the planet to be sold: I've done so much to me-ify it no one else would touch it without restoring it to some semblance of "original", at great cost in time and cash.
And % value spent on my mods? Probably at least 75%! Wheels, bits of chrome trim, custom interior, custom grill, hard tonneau (painted), CAI, Borla, SCT X3 tuning, Sirius/XM, complete engine bay stainless steel trim, custom hard top & electric hoist, untold number of accessories such as bra, extra boots, mats, etc.
Total $ invested in 5 years (purchased for <$19,000): well in excess of $30,000.
Value: Maybe $10,000, if I were to find the right sucker.
So, no, it's not an investment for monetary gain. But it makes me more satisfied than spending that money on cocaine, golf, movies, hookers, what have you.

What do you mean by "increase in value"? Adjusted for inflation? In today's dollars, or those of ten years from now?

If our Birds in today's market cost about what the cheapest new cars cost, will they cost less or more than the cheapest new cars ten years from now?

About the mods, if they are more than 25% of the value of the car, you will be loosing the half of your investment. At least. Unless that you still have the original parts.
A car is not a money investment for mods. As a rule of thumb, 10% of the value of the car is the max to install mods and no more. It depends of your personality as the owner to invest more but it is not the case for a new buyer. So, just to be careful of what you are going to invest about mods for adding a positive or negative value of your car.

Alain at 10% I've reached my max! But what fun it has been! Since I have no plans to sell Black Beauty and loose all my new friends here I couldn't care what the value will be, it will have been worth it!
