    Re: Smoking

    Skip,

I honestly hadn't even thought of it. Being that I don't smoke it wasn't formost in my mind. Hey he could have rode with ny parents or sister they're all packa day plus smokers.

    frankhj,
That was originally going to be the question, but as I typed, it kind of got away from me. Go Figure.

      Re: Smoking

In your house and in your car you have the right to establish the rules and if one is no smoking then that's the way it is. If others cannot or don't want to abide by the rule then the alternative is pretty straight forward for them.

        Re: Smoking

Your poll is a bit skewed I think. I do smoke (cigars) and I do smoke in my bird with the top down, but I do not smoke anywhere I want. I am courteous of others who do not smoke.

I smoke, but am always considerate of others. I do not smoke in my car or their car when I am with them, but I do smoke in my car when alone. Yankee Candle refreshers do a great job and people often mention that my car never smells of smoke.

And MichaelM - you did the right thing, as did your brother! What's 10-20 minutes out of your travels to make everyone happy?

              Re: Smoking

I'm not going to get into the smoking/non-smoking debate, as that's one of those "hot button" topics, but if I was a smoker I still wouldn't smoke in my Bird. I'd be scared to death that an ash would blow off and burn a hole somewhere, especially when the top was down.

Patti, I agree. Those Yankee Candle refreshers are great.

Being 61 years old, I remember the 60's and 70's when I was subjected to long business meetings in rooms with little or no ventilation. I would complain about the smoke and the smell of my clothes after the meetings to my supervisor or co-workers and they had no sympathy what so ever. Now that smokers are being limited to where they can smoke, they do not get sympathy from me! ( Every dog has his day!)

I really don't want to go here, but....

Well Dave...being 61 and still harboring ill will towards smokers for something that happened 35 years ago is a bit over the top for me. Being 58 and having been a smoker in the 60's and 70's, I could very well hAve been one of those who offended you. But please... you are speaking now with todays moors and values... and trying to equate it to the "way things were". The facts are that smoking in public places back then was legal and those who "offended" you were doing absolutely nothing wrong (based on the laws of the time). I admit that those laws needed to be changed and I'm glad they were. However, had I been sitting next to you at one of these meetings, and you had asked me to put my cigarette out, I probably would have (if you asked me in a civil manner). On the other hand, you would have had no right (then) to comple me to do so.

Today, I'm a cigar smoker. I am relegated to smoking outdoors (as Florida doesn't allow smoking in bars or restaurants). I enjoy my cigar but I don't expect anyone else to so I consider myself considerate of others. The truth is however, that while smoking outdoors (al fresco), if I'm asked to put my cigar out, because it bothers someone else, my answer is quite polite and firm..GO INSIDE AND SIT... You and those who feel as you do have made that your domain. I for one will not be controlled by the PLEASURE POLICE...

                  Long ashes to you Dave!

                    Re: Smoking

                    Paul,
First of all, I do not hold any "ill will" toward smokers then or now. My point was, that back in those days smokers were very callous toward non-smokers. And based on your comments, you could be a "poster boy" to prove my point". I was not one of those "militant non-smokers" but marveled at the lack of consideration smokers exhibited in those days. I grew up in a smoking household, my grandfather, father and mother all died of lung cancer.

Having said that, I have always felt people have the right to smoke. I don't think they should be able to sue Phillip Morris, using the argument "your responsible for my cancer". Pardon me if I don't shed any tears over the restrictions that have been enacted to smokers since that time.

I don't smoke never did except in high school for a short time to be cool. I will not let anyone smoke in my car or house, When I'm out and someone smokes if it bothers me I move up wind. If they are in a no smoking area I will
quietly let them know, it's then up to them to move or put it out, if they don't I move.

Rick... as a smoker of cigars I can't agree with you more. You hit the nail right smack dab on the head. I, and several of my friends enjoy an evening out together for dinner, cocktails and cigars. We always make a point of meeting at a place where they have outdoor seating so we can enjoy our smokes without bothering anyone. I should ad that we do this in the hottest part of the years here in Florida. What I do find aggrevating are those individuals who are still bothered by the smoke (outside) and make an issue out of it. Ourside is where smokers have be relegated to and I feel that those who are bothered by it should go inside where the air is fresh and clean.

                              MichaelM,

YOU WERE ENTIRELY CORRECT. I don't smoke and would not let anyone smoke in my bird. Besides that nowadays smokers cannot smoke in restaurants or anywhere else. Besides their health, the smokers are stinking up the air and I don't think they even realize how they themselves smell. When you even stand next to a smoker they smell like a dirty ashtray. Also, the second hand smoke is just as bad as the smoke itself. So, basically, if they don't care about their health they are saying to you, "I don't care about your health".

I SAY LET THEM WALK. THE EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR THEM. BUT THEN AGAIN, AFTER SMOKING THEY PROBABLY ARE UNABLE TO WALK TOO FAR FOR LOSS OF BREATH.
