Thanks, Cliff, for this offer. If things progress, I may ask for some help for your friend. If so, I will be in touch (probably through a PM).
In the interim, you folks reading this have any suggestions on what would be a fair price for this car?

An inexact science for sure. KBB gives a value price range of 17 to 19.6K.

Well, I went to Kelly Blue Book's website. For a 2005 Thunderbird with 7,800 miles, hardtop, premium wheels, and gold color; the fair market price range came to $16,957 - $19,124 for a dealer purchase. Fair purchase price overall was $18,041. I think that would be pretty fair myself for a low mileage car in a very unique color. I know I wouldn't go anymore than that for a 13 year old car. Especially since parts availability continues to be an question mark for these cars.

Personally, if I were going to spend $20,000 or more on a fun car now days, I would have to go for a 2016 - 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport.

Yep...I see that Gene, thanks...and it appears Greg's picked up on that too (see below):

Thanks Greg...sounds about right with me...let's see if others feel the same.

I did just that, Ron...thanks. They have assured me all the parts are there, and that would arrange for transport to Phoenix...however, not sure they're willing to bridge the gap between what the car's worth and what they're asking. We'll keep you posted.

The Lincoln LS helps with most mechanical items and soft trim is never going to be available. Electrical and computer items might be a struggle, but most of those are being sorted out. There are lots of aftermarket items available for our cars and used parts are starting to show up. Spence just came up with a great set of used seats for his 2002 Thunderbird Blue. I see no question mark for parts, just ask around.

I think you may be right, Ron...the more I read about hiccups with the cars on TBN, the more I see folks stepping up to help solve the problems. If I can make a deal, I have a great, family owned independent repair shop that's been in business for over 80 years (A+ rating with BBB) that will get all the repair business on the car - they've been doing auto repairs for our family for over 30 years.

You're the exception Ron. If one of your Thunderbirds craps out, it can always be used to salvage parts for the other 11.

I think what I'd pay for the car and what the dealer wants is just too far apart...the frustrating thing is their "justification" is built on erroneous information about the Birds...a Ford dealer that doesn't know about the retros - GOSH, where have I heard that before.

Well, that last one was ordered by Earl Tindol (of Earl Tindol Ford) and part of his collection until it was sold. He was a member of this site at one time. Don't remember his handle. He did make it to a few TBN related events on the east coast including Thunder Fever in 2005. He didn't bring the Inca though at that time as his Inca had not been built yet. TBN members have made a couple of visits to his semi-private collection where the supercharged test Thunderbird rests.
Was that the man that brought his supercharged Thunderbird (prototype) to Maggie valley? I recollect seeing one at one of the early TBN events and I think it was in NC.

I hope you get it Jim. Then someday I can get a chance to check it out. In the meantime, Roxy will be my sole Tbird.

I would never do that to one of my Thunderbirds, too many other ways to go.

Well, my offer was not accepted - I'm not willing to pay what they're asking, so this is not the car. Interesting they thought part of the reason it was worth more was due to the 50th anniversary badging. When I told them it was on all the 2005's, they seemed surprised by that - hmmmm.
They figured Birds with similarities to it are selling for b/t 28 and 29K - at 24K, they think they're offering a "deal"...just not gonna happen.

Jim: Sorry that you could not work something out, BUT with a car dealer there may be some hope if they realize that they have a buyer and try and work something out with you, been a while since we talked, a fellow Inca owner just over in the next state. Good luck. Earl

Sorry to hear that Jim. As a real estate broker I have advised some clients that sometimes the best negotiation is NO negotiation. Walk away, they know where you live. If the market tells them they won't get their number they might change their tune. Call 'em in two weeks just to know you're still alive.
