  • Repair Front Bumper Lic Plate holes

Since the IG was a California car its whole life, it had the front bumper plate on it. AZ doesn't require that, so one of the first things I did was take it off - and of course there are two small holes.

My question is this: is there a simple, easy "fix" for this without taking it to a body shop? At this time I can't afford having a body shop remove, fill, paint and replace the bumper simply for two small holes. I was thinking there might possibly be some small plastic-type plugs I could use to fill the holes and then just using touch-up paint to paint them.

    Thoughts?

Yes, Go to Fastenal and buy automotive plastic plugs. Then buy some touch up paint. Paint the plugs and insert in former license holes and wa la an easy inexpensive fix that I have seen before and looks nice

Thanks, Jon, for the tip on Fastenal...bought the touch-up paint yesterday. Had to have it mixed at an automotive paint shop as Ford didn't have any (closest location for it was Nevada).

Steve Legel wrote an article on doing this without plugs for the ITC magazine. I no longer have it but you could try sending an email. That said, the plugs sound like a satisfactory fix.

Thanks, Gene. I'll do the plugs first, but also reach out to ITC to see if I can find the article.

Have you considered using the holes to mount something else instead of a license plate bracket?
              For example....

20181229_142901.jpg I DID THE PLUG AND PAINT THING. TURNED OUT NICELY IN MY OPINION.

I agree, almost invisible. With Inca Gold it may be a little harder to conceal, hope not.

I like it, Rusty, cuz it's "subtle"...

Phil, yours is almost invisible...that's cool, but Cal may be right about the IG being harder to conceal. I'll get some plugs and try it and then post a picture.

Good luck. I think it will turn out fine.

Jim, use those license plate holes for the injection site for your future ram air supply. Sierra977 can probably give more specific info.

In my area there are companies that do on sight repairs of bumpers for a fraction of the cost of a body shop. You might want to consider having that done.
