Perhaps the compressor assembly included the dryer - I don't know.

I don't want to scare you, but when I consulted one of the top A/C guys here he told me when I had Ford replace the Compressor, tell them you want the Dryer changed too. Maybe it is part of a "kit", as Greg said. The issue is when a compressor breaks contaminants wind up in the Dryer and then those same particles can mess up the new compressor. Recently, the Subaru dealer tried to slip by changing the dryer when they were changing my compressor. I simply said fine, but be prepared to do the job over again in a year, because the dryer will mess up the new compressor. They relented and replaced the dryer because I had a SUBARU ESP warranty just like you with Ford. Later I found out it was the service tech that resisted doing the Dryer because it was in a really hard place to get at, and he knew he couldn't beat the hours allowed for that task. Figures, greed was the motive rather than do the job right.

          Jim,
If compressor is damaged, it may have sent debris into the condenser and dryer. A system flush is required if debris is determined.
If the compressor is just worn out, the dryer should be changed anyway.

Parts dealers usually do not guarantee the compressor unless the dryer is changed as well.

My 'kit' did include the condenser and dryer plus hose connections.

Thanks all...I have a call into the service rep, but haven't heard back from him. This may prove what I've always feared about this dealership - we'll see!

Okay - spoke with service writer just now, and he confirmed the compressor was "intact" - the leaking seals of the compressor forced the change out. There was no metal in the system (they confirmed). They used "Ford specs" to determine what damage requires what procedure.

Are you getting a new dryer?
With seals dried out the compressor was sucking air with water in it and the dryer might be at reduced capacity.

They said "no" to a new dryer. Not sure what my next step would be - perhaps contact Ford. Here we go again...next time, different dealer!

go elsewhere Jim. Billy my specialist at Eco Tech came highly recommended ...he does all the Miata's in The Villages. Best of all is the life time warranty on the A/C

I agree that they should have most likely done the dryer.. BUT the work they did for Jim was on his ESP and if they screwed up they will end up doing the whole job over on FORDs dime. Unless they no longer warranty their own work.. Not much Jim can do nor should he.. In that this is the same dealer that messed with him on his last 05 I hope they have to replace it until the cows come home..

Exactly this. Yes, a dryer replacement is pretty standard anytime the AC system is opened up (which includes a compressor replacement), but since it was Ford ESP, I wouldn't sweat it. My local Lincoln dealer screwed up our rear suspension and it took me ~ 2 years to figure it out. I pointed out the error and they fixed it FREE, since the original repair was under ESP and it was their screwup. Boy did the original tech catch hell though....all the other techs made fun of him (it was a really stupid mistake).

Like Lakebum said the ESP does not allow or authorize the R&R of parts that are not part of the failure. Even if common sense implications makes it so.
Another example of this is a failed cop. The ESP authorize s the R&R of the failed cop and it's spark plug. Nothing more. Common sense & past experience tells us that since that bank or side of the engine is exposed, probably should go ahead & change the others on that side. Ford ends up paying instead one cop at a time as they fail.
Another is anything that needs to be replaced as a pair or set. The ESP covers the failed one the owner buys the other & if there is labor charges for the second one of the pair that too.
