Forever Black Black-Top is literally a black dye in an easier-to-control gel form that re-colors the vinyl and creates a deep, black luster. Black-Top should only be used on vinyl convertible tops, bimini tops, and tonneaus. It is not recommended for fabric. The dye’s unique polymers bond the pigment to the vinyl for long-lasting color restoration.

Just finished using the Protex top dye/ restorer. Couple of observations.

Web site says a one liter bottle will do two coats on a 4 seat convertible. Believe that to be true as my 500 milliliter bottle did the bird top with probably enough left to finish if indeed a 4 seater. So we will have one coat only.

Recommend going to the dollar store and buying the foam applicator ( 6-8 for $1) that they try to pass off as paint brushes. Used three but they did work very well. No need for a bunch of masking with painter's tape except for the narrow area between the back window and the sail panel. (Don't for get the expoxy to freshen up your sealing job of 3-4 years ago where the window was delaminating). If you get a drip or two please go over that spot to smooth it in asap.

So far it has covered the dark spots where the top folds over metal pieces. Of course the jury is out on that while 3 hour drying time takes place.

Have the bottle of 303 fabric guard/sealer ready to go as soon as it dries. (another current thread discusses RagTopp products but 303 gets my vote).

I'd say yes to the product!

Good to hear, Bill. I would let it dry overnight before applying the 303.

A wise man! An impatient man (me) goes out after the 3 hour drying time and sticks three fingers right in the middle of the top and gets three fingers completely blackened! $%^&*()_+_(*&^%$#@

Update: 10:00 Top completely dry. Gave it a refreshed blacker top. Did not hide the prior black marks but they are less noticeable. As gene said, the 303 finish is tomorrow. Protex IMHO is worth the $28.

They have their own sealer but it is much more expensive than 303!

simple, if it's meant for vinyl tops only, DONT use it on fabric. You will regret it immensely.
