  • Engine Cover Painted

Well, tried to do the Jag engine cover but they just dont work well unless you have CAI.
SO, I decided to dress up the factory cover. Here's what I wound up with. Pics of before and after. My car is a PCR and the color is very close to the silver-ish hard top color.

I like it. Nice contrast with the black color on most everything else under the hood.

Looks good. Hope you used a high heat tolerant paint. Please post again in a few weeks as to how it is holding up.

            Looks great Phil.

As my partners in crime Greg Nelson and Stuart Weir have found out the Jag did not fit and Greg's car and required cutting without the CAI. It fit Stuart's car with the CAI exactly.

You are absolutely correct and any contemplating the jag cover should be aware.

( I have the Lincoln LS cover which is an exact fit but no Bird logo for sale for $75 to your door!)
            Again looks great!)

Yes Bill, I kept trimming and fitting with the Jag cover until I'd trimmed most of the front of the cover was gone. Said to hell with it at that point. I'm happy with this.

Very nice engine cover. When I had mine painted, it was done in base/clear with flex agent, being a plastic part. I then applied “Reflect-a-cool” to the underneath of the cover. It was like a self-adhesive tinfoil which was high heat resistant, to provide further protection to the paint. It stood up perfectly over many years until Blingbird and I parted ways.

UPDATE: Suggest you leave masking tape over the tbird logo and raised silver stripe areas when spraying the clear coat. I didnt - impatience! Have wrinkles/bubbles showing up mostly on the logo area. Not awful - just looks like wrinkle paint was used.

Simple. Cleaned with denatured alcohol, sprayed a plastic primer, applied 3 coats of Krylon spray paint (for plastic) and following with two coats of clear coat. Sand with 0000 steel wool in between all applications.
I've done this on several cars and had 0 problems.

Thanks, Phil. It really makes things pop. I may do mine in Coral to match the body. Gotta sleep on that.

Thanks. You might want to do a "test run" with the coral. At first, I painted mine in the tbird emblem turquoise - wow - it was way over the top for my taste! Wound up with this nickle satin and am happy. It's very close to the top color on this PCR - maybe you can see in this pic.

Good point. The Coral may work as it’s already present under the hood. I also need to do the front license plate holder.

May work for you then assuming you can get color match with the coral.
