Hey all, found a small metal toggle switch with a red tip while replacing the brake light switch in my '02. Don't see anything in the owner's manual. We are the original owners. Any ideas?
Thanks, JR
Possibly a burglar alarm, fog lights or a "workaround" for a failed electrical component -- I developed such a "fix" for the dash lights being in operative due to a bad Front Electronic Module. Even seen a switch like that for an auxillary electric radiator cooling fan or for a "train" horm under the hood. Could even be a replacement for a failed Traction Control dash switch.
Trace the wires or exercise as many of the car's functions as you can think of while operating the switch to see what's affected. Be cautious as somtimes Bubba wasn't smart enough to properly fuse powered circuits.
Seems odd, as John says he is the original owner. Don't recall any extra switches on our '02 "green" Thunderbird Blue. Could be a "One of one", right Harry?

Since they are the original owners I would suspect a Stealership by Bubba fix and do as Frank suggested and trace the wires from the switch to wherever..
Might not hurt to go over your old paperwork and see what repairs FOMOCO made early one, it might jog your memory as to a Bubba fix.. I think you used to be able to have FOMOCO pull your records using the VIN??
In looking at the picture, there's a painted indentation of the metal, so a hole wasn't just drilled, something was meant to be there. Have you felt on the other side to find out if there are any wires attached? It will interesting to see what this was for!

Well, the car has 8,500 miles on it and has only been to the dealer for a check engine light. There are no added fog lights. I would think it has a factory alarm already but who knows. I will have the car in a week so I can check it out further and keep everyone posted. I will get better pics too.

Anxiously waiting to hear. BTW, we’re practically neighbors.
I'm thinking of all the Bird owners with sore backs today after checking under their car's dash for a toggle switch! (Me included.) We don't have one, by the way!
