  • Gasoline odor on 2003 T-Bird

I occasional experience a strong gasoline odor inside the car when starting my 2003 Thunderbird. It seems to occur after the car has been sitting for several hours (over night). I currently have it in the shop and the mechanic cannot find any fuel leaks. Has anyone experienced this same issue? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Do you get this after you fill up? Maybe you overfill?

No. Usually after the car sits overnight.

If you have not done so, I would have your mechanic change the fuel filter and the rubber hose that connects the filter to the steel fuel line. The filter is located on the frame under the the driver's side front wheel area. The fuel system holds high pressure against that line and filter even when the engine is not running. You may be getting vapor seepage that is not a obvious leak, but could smell in the cabin overnight. Not an expensive fix to try. Let us know what you find.

          Did you resolve the problem?

You may want to check the top of the fuel tank for leaking gasket or slight crack. With the help of a manual look up the procedure for fuel pump/sender change.
            Just a thought.

Nothing really. Just looking for a little feedback on this member's problem. was also going to suggest he have the fuel tank pressure tested for the leak as a last resort.

Yes, 53 new members have joined so far this month alone. Not a single one has returned after their initial join date. I'll bet not a single one of those 53 have a Thunderbird. Don't know what they are up to but it can't be good.

                        Good luck on the scan....

Checking further... 493 "new" members have joined so far this year. Only a handful have ever posted or even visited again.

If you look at the member list, it is over 1300 pages long! I think it may be time to purge the rolls of all who have not posted in a year, but I am not the boss.
