  • Repair: Overflow Pipe

I got my car back yesterday after having spent some time with the mechanic. It seems that the puddle of coolant was caused by the so-called overflow hose,
part #404386182686"]3W4Z-8C289-AA. I say so-called since it's largely aluminum, with a crimped on short length of hose, which is the part that was leaking.

Brad, AKA tbirdbob.com should have burning ears by now, but he was a big help. The labor/parts was about $600, not counting the pipe part that was half again that price as a NIB OEM part. The local part price was double that, so if you have to replace this part, do some shopping, and do give Bob a call. I should note that I was given a nice Suby to drive at no cost for a week, so that has to be factored in.

It's important that members share information, it helps all of us. Thanks to Spence for hosting this forum, and to all who have shared, and inspired me to do the same; it has helped me out on more than one occasion.

Ouch!! That is a new one on me, have not heard of that problem before. All parts / repairs on these cars seem overly expensive, but that one is a really hard to understand. Thanks for posting. Glad you are back on the road.

Billy, a lot of the bill for these cars, and for that matter, probably any recent car, is just the time it takes to get to the part. Here's what the part looks like:

Anyone know if that part is common with the Lincoln LS?

Don’t know, don’t want to find out.

If you input this into Ebay, it does return a like looking item for the LS. It looks the same, but don't know if it's compatible.

20240223_134028.jpg He already had the new part installed. I directed him to a seller that had one for sale for less than what I charge. If 600 was for parts and labor that was a huge bargain. The top of the engine is off the car in the picture and you can barely see parts of the hose on the firewall

$600 was for ancillary things, such as coolant, and for labor EXCLUDING the cost of the part. With tax, AND my cost for the part, the tab was around $1000.

Repairs on virtually any recent car are going to be pricey from the time and labor to get to the repair part. When the parts are difficult to find, the price goes up accordingly.

Hey, it’s only money. You can’t take it with you. Sorry that you have been hit with this. A real bummer for sure.

Right, Gene! While I wasn't happy about it, I wanted to raise consciousness that these are now older cars, and parts are just going to wear out from age/use. It makes me happy to drive it, and just look at it. "Nuff said, let's move on.
