[K&N will tell you that theirs will give more HP because of the piece right after the filter isolates the filter from the engine bay heat. 2nd photo is a Bird, 1st photo is LS. Curtis

You're right on the Bird & LS but they are the same motor. Pic was to show how the tru Rev is connected to all the Ford tubing & baffles and the K&N going thru the Alum tube directly to the throttle body.

With the Tru Rev the air is router thru the air baffle with the sticker on it and a couple of more below it before reaching the throttle body.

        Re: K&N or TRUE-Rev?

I have the K&N on my car and I do not necessarily like the swooshing sound heard starting around 4K RPM or the sucking sound when the engine is turned off. With all the stock baffling used with the Tru Rev it may not do this. I have often wondered what the results would be to simply cut the bottom out of the stock air box and drop in an Advanced Filter Engineering (AFE) filter. The actual inlet on the stock box is very small and maybe simply cutting the bottom out, or drilling many 1 or 2 inch dia. holes in the bottom, and couple that action with an AFE filter would be equal to the Tru Rev performance.

No way to really tell without trail and error and many dyno runs which would get somewhat costly.

              Re: K&N or TRUE-Rev?

              Hi there,

Sorry to get this old thread back to the top again but after a few months of reading and pondering I have just taken the plunge and ordered a True Rev induction kit. I have been running the car for a few weeks with just the intake pipe removed from the base of the filter box like was suggested to me. That does improve the sound somewhat but I didn't want to keep it that way as a permenant solution, I was concerned about the filter getting clogged to easily.

By going this route, I will now have a high performance K&N type filter and a slightly smoother run into the top of the engine. Can't wait to get it fitted, I'll report back later and let you know the results.

By the way, my new custom plate, 'FLY AWAY' arrived yesterday so that's two little things to look forward to. Can't wait for our next drive with these two new attachments on board.

              All the best, Gordon.

Gordon: Which one did you order, by part number, etc., and from which company? Thanks for your response...........

                  Hi Donn,

If you look back to post 26 in this thread, the info is there. I was going to order through KurtzKustomz but when I tried placing the order, nobody answered the phone. I then tried to order from their website but it didn't recognise my card.

I then gave up on them and ordered it from Thunderbird Concepts.

                  Hope this helps, Gordon.

                    Re: K&N or TRUE-Rev?

Donn. The good news is these CAIs are now available from many sources and prices. I ordered my K&R Series 69 Typhoon CAI from Autocom performance parts. Simple online transaction thru eBay via PayPal. Price was $204 with a $20 charge for FedEx shipping. I was surprised at how fast it was delivered. I bought it on Sunday 2/24, they had units in stock, and FedEx delivered it to my house on Tuesday 2/26. I can't comment about Autocom service if needed - I've not needed to raise any issues with Autocom yet. I think the price with Autocom has gone up since my purchase. ThunderBird Concepts is priced a little more than the lowest price from a google search, but they also have a very good reputation with most tbird nesters on this site. You probably can't go wrong if you go with TBConcepts as did Daktari (Gordon). Good luck... Todd.

Had the K&N Typhoon CAI installed today - wow!

All I can say is, I don't know what I like better, the looks of the unit, the growl when it accelerates, or the noticeable performance increase.

                        Guess it's just a win/win/win

                          Re: K&N or TRUE-Rev?

                          Hi there,

I had three 'extras' done all roughly at the same time so it is hard to isolate the results from each other. I fitted the True Rev intake system with K&N type cone filter. I then had Aero tail pipes fitted which certainly to me look a lot better than the stock 'shorty, hide-away' tail pipes. Just after this I had the computer up date from the local Ford dealership. I was told this was mainly effecting the timing and emissions.

The car's performance may have sharpened up a little but to me the most noticable and most enjoyable difference is the sound.

I soon found the revs and speeds that the engine now sounds at it's best. In the case of this car, I like the sound betwenn 2000 and 3000 revs. It then kind of makes you drive a little different just to hear that gentle growling sound. It is especially good with the top down I've found.

This is not a 'showy' kind of look at me, wake up the all neighbourhood sound, but just enough to get a look or two when leaving the lights or exiting a parking lot.

For the price of around $ 140.00, I would for sure recommend the air intake for sound and the new tail pipes for the looks.

                          All the best, Gordon.

The LS V8 and the Thunderbird 3.9 Litre engines are the same, but the K&N replacement air filter does not fit in the original 2005 Thunderbird Box. It is just a tad larger than the paper filter that came with the car. I found out the hard way, I now have an LS K&N Air Filter on a shelf in my garage! The Tbird paper air filter remains in the air box.
