I looked up Kragen on the internet and the battery for the bird was "greyed out" as being not available.

I am not positive because we have no lead acid batteries where I work, but I believe they are haz-mat. I seem to recall this from looking up all the regulations on lithium batteries. There may be some exceptions, I think the sealed smaller batteries that some motorcycles use can be shipped via UPS, but a car battery is probably too big.
Hopefully, someone who really knows will either correct me or confirm.

Just replaced the battery this week from the Ford dealer $155.00 ,100 month warranty a$30.00 rebate will be in the mail with the stimulis checks

David III, The only battery that I've found for the Thunderbird that is NOT considered Hazardous Material is the Odessey battery. It's the only Battery that I've found that can be shipped by air freight becuase of the way it's made and the materials used. They also out last and out perform any batteries I've found on the market as of now. They have no vent or relief valve. On the down side they cost about double what Buddy paid. Leroy

My step-daughter just bought an '08 Pontiac G5 GT, low and behold the battery is in the trunk!. When it's parked long enough for me to look again, I'll get the specs and see if the application is the same.

Battery died today in my 04. Purchased 84 month replacement from O'Reily Auto parts for $92.99 since the Ford dealership is closed on Sundays. Super Start Extreme 65EXTN fits perfectly with the posts and vent in the correct place. Took just a few moments to change. Sure is nice to have a clean battery out of the trunk rather that one from under the hood.

Thank you Bartholemew. I went to my local O'Reily and the battery was $99.99. They even put it in for me at no charge. Took about five minutes and the Super Start Extreme 65EXTN is a perfect match including shape and placement of the vent tube connection. Great not having to drive many miles to nearest Ford dealer and dealing with their service department.

Well I gess I am the lucky one the T Bird did not start but I put a charger on the battery and vroom the next morning, Looked out side and we still have two feet of snow :( I did have fun playing around with the car and the Ford guys here are asking $170
I think they got me I have asked around and no one here has vented Batterys that will fit.

I finally got to look at my step-daughter's '08 Pontiac (post 115). This vented battery won't work in the TBird. The terminals are opposite and it's vented from the opposite side and on top of that it's only 600CCA. On a better note I happened to stop at the local Meineke shop that is also an Exide battery dealer. The owner did some research and told me that he can get a battery that is spec'd for the TBird for "about 85.00". When I'm not on another errand I'll stop and check further.

I've kept a battery tender on my '04 every winter in storage, but this winter, it did not stay charged. The little window on the top of that battery was red, so I went to my local Ford dealer Saturday morning. I gave the parts man the Battery part number of BXT-66-650. He looked it up, and said that Ford now makes that battery with 750 cold cranking amps as well, the part number is BXT-66-750. He said they stopped ordering the 650 because the 750 was a better battery, and was the same price of $109.95. After talking with him awhile, he discounted the battery to $94.95, since I am a "preferred customer", buying several cars from this dealership in the last 15 years.
I put it in myself, and did not see the need for removing the spare tire, just removed the side and front blocks holding the battery in place, tilted the side up facing the front of the car, and it lifted right out.
I also have an '08 Pontiac G5 Gt, which also has the battery in the trunk. I haven't even looked for it, but one interesting thing is that the Pontiac has a terminal under the hood to be used for "jump starting" it with battery cables.
