  • hood scoop trim

    Hello

I am seeking advice from someone who has been there. My question relates to the chrome hood scoop available from Ford. For about 100 bucks, I can get one. Sounds good, but I have a concern. Since the scoop is painted simultaneously with the hood, would some paint from the hood come off with the scoop if removed? Am I inviting an opportunity for paint chips?

Has anyone made this conversion? Advice? If you had to do it again, would you?

Certainly I do not want to have to paint the hood because of installing this trim item.

I think that with black paint, a little chrome is good, more chrome is better, and a lot of chrome is great.

    Thanks,

    Bruce

Hey Bruce, welcome to the Nest. It's a separate part, many of us have switched it out, use the search function here on TBN and you'll find instructions for installation. 10-15 min. job, no paint chips, good luck. This is one mod most of us here agree should have been stock from Ford.

        Bruce,

Make sure you get the Ford part. I switched the scoop out with no problems. Like Phil said, it is a separate piece, and the painted ones were apparently added to the hood after being painted in different operations.

As the others said, make sure you order the FoMoCo Part. The aftermarket "paste-on" is expensive, looks like ****, and the aftermarket supplier stuck me with it and would not accept a return regardless of what he stated in this forum.

              Re: hood scoop trim

I changed out the hood scoop without removing all the padding on the inside of the hood. use a small flat blade screwdriver covered with duct tape to pry the old scoop off and simply push the new one on until the clips engage. The dealer showed me how to do this and it's quick and works. I have a black 03 and the new hood scoop looks great.

              Good Luck,

Bruce, I think this is the best deal, if their price is still the same:

                thefordsource.com - $79.00 + $9.00 S/H = $88.00 TOTAL, #5W6Z16C630AAA

Has anyone bought the hood scoop from Marilyn's link ?? Even though they have the good Part number, no photo, its raising my eyebrows here. I cant find a chrome hood scoop from ford (5W6Z16C630AAA) for less than $185 bucks , and thats the same part number they have listed on their site ??

Doug, that's where I bought mine, and I can verify it's the real thing. You can call them, however, if it will ease your mind: 800-378-3673, ex 958.

Linda, who did you purchase yours from ,if I may ask? I'm thinking about replacing mine. Also, did you have to remove the under hood material or did you pry off the old scoop from the top as one of our members did?

                              Thanks,
