  • Cure for noisy wiper blades ?

    Hi there,

Just a quick question. Ever since we bought our bird I have noticed the wiper blades being really noisy. They are very good at clearing the windshield, no complaints there but the groaning sound gets a bit annoying. It makes this sound just in one direction.

This has become more of a problem recently because I have started using our T-bird as my main to-from work driver. This means we are out in the rain a lot more than when it was mainly just a weekend driver.

Is their anything I could wipe the blades with that might help?

    Thanks for any suggestion, Gordon.

    Quick answer. Replace the blades.

You need new wiper blades. They have lost their elasticity, the older they get, the louder they get. New blades will silently clean your windshield.

Also, a tip. After using the wipers and you're done driving, lift the wiper blades and place them against the windshield so that the blade is facing down, not up. This shades them from the sun, and also makes the downstroke more effective when you're using them.

        Hi there,

Thanks for them real quick responses. That's what I'll do, new blades. My first thought was if they are clearing the windshield properly then they were working fine but I guess making that noise means they probably are old and not so flexible.

Any recommendations for really good blades or are just run of the mill blades ok?

        Thanks, Gordon.

The Ford blades have always worked great for me.

I use Rain-X wipers. Also, clean your windshield with "Perfect Glass". You'll be very pleased at the way water beads up, and your wipers just glide across the glass. Perfect Glass can be found at Bed Bath & Beyond.

I use Tri-Co blades and most places like Auto Zone and Advanced Auto will put them on for you. I also use Rain-Ex windshield wiper Fluid. It's a bit pricey compared to regular fluid but it's worth it. It not only cleans off bugs good, it also coats your windshield with Rain-Ex every time you use it. If you,ve never used Rain-Ex you're in for a real surprise, you can almost drive with-out wipers. I also think it helps keep snow and ice from clinging to your windshield, I use it in all my vehicles except my 1948 Willys. Leroy

I use Armorall wash n wax when washing .It seems to put a slight coat of wax and water beads right up .Rainex is also a good product just a pain to buff off the windshield.

I just put on the el cheapo's from Kragen ($5.95 per)worked silently first rain, squeek now, but in So. Cal that is probably good enough. Ford was $30.

Same issue here. Since I have had the car I have replaced blades many times, no difference. It's one of the minors on this car I must say. I am afraid it is either the quality of the blades or the shape of the window. They never run smoothly.
