      Oh man, you too?

I caved to all the pressure from the NE Group about that.

No pressure here...I actually told you I liked it when you first posted the pic..I was actually thinking that you changed it because you were as sick of this never-ending winter as I am..Spring cannot come fast enough!

I think mine is actually starting to show signs of the cop problem! Ford told me I can not bring it in untill it actually fails! Sad! Mine only comes out on nice sunny days. I have had her for 4 years now and just under 20K on it. Sad really!

Yup, not until it trips a code. I was paying out of my own pocket and they wouldn't touch it without a code. Took a year of skipping before mine tripped.

It takes a certain number of skips in one driving session to trip the code. I took a road trip to the mountains for a weekend....did the trick.....I was never so happy to see the engine light, finally.

In hindsight, there's got to be a way to make them trip the code when you know there's something wrong and the dealership says it's fine. Maybe we should mail our bad COP's around.

You know that sounds like an idea! I am going to check with my buddy who is a Land Rover tech, knows a ton about cars to see if he knows of a way to get the code to load faster! Right now I have only had it happen a few times and each time I let off the gas and the step back into it and it goes away.

I don't understand why some cars have COPs failures and others don't. Is it because of the way it's driven, how often it's driven, how it's maintained, whether or not it's garaged, color, year, bad design..........? I just don't get why some never have a failure and others have multiple failures. I've had a bunch of cars in my life, and I had never heard of COPs failures until this car. So far I've been lucky, but it sure takes some of the joy out of driving the car always having the possibility of a COPs failure in the back of your mind.

Now we have 2nd and 3rd owners joining in stating that they are driving these low mileage cars on a daily basis and the cars have developed COP problems. Hmmm, I wonder why?
There's a reason why Ford refuses to acknowledge the COP problem with the 02 cars and I think it is because the cars weren't driven normal yearly mileage and Ford wasn't aware there was a problem.
And that's just my humble opinion...... If you've got some other explanation why we are seeing more and more of these older cars reported as having COP problems, you tell me why?

Enjoy her Ray, and don't worry about it....the hard part is over....you've got a warranty.

You should have plenty of warning, it starts with a little skip, barely noticeable, you won't get stranded anywhere.

You can be proactive and seal the windshield cowl with silicone, it's easy, I did it myself. That should keep any moisture away from them. I don't have a garage, so I have to wash Sweet T a lot. The dealer ran a hose on my windshield and sure enough, it drained right on top of the COP banks. I think that's how my problem started....just from the moisture of washing her.

Just had #2 and #4 replaced along with valve cover gaskets. Didn't get 20 miles till it was missing again!! When back and he found #3 missing and before he got it out of his stall #1 went. I stopped on the way home to get a sandwich and when i started it I swear it was missing but no check engine light yet. No use taking it in until light is on because they won't do anything with out the light. This makes 6 that have been replaced. My 200 Chrysler 300M has 136000 miles and has never missed a beat and I wash the engine all the time. Go figure

                          Re: C ops Club

I am one of the rare 2002 owners that drove the heck out of my car (92,999mi), and enjoyed every minute of it! :D

My first COP problem was around 62,000mi (conviently out of the 50,000mi warranty). At 70,000 and 75,000, I had a couple more failures - each time it was a decent sized bill. At ~75,000mi with another failure I had the ford dealer replace all of the old COPs and replace all of the gaskets. Since then I have put on an additional 18,000mi and I have not have a single COP issue. So the repair appears to have worked. The dealer explained that if the gaskets dry out it can lead to substances leaking into the COPs and damaging them. So it appears that the problem may not be the COPs themselves, but rather the grade of gasket used in the 2002-2003 models. Mine was a VERY late manufactured 2002 bird.

If you are experiencing multiple COP problems, you will probably continue experiencing them until all gaskets are replaced at the minimum - but at that stage you might as well replace the COPs too due to labor costs. I am happy my car is absolved of this problem, though since I am selling it for financial reasons I guess it is irrelevant at this point.

Almost sounds like he put the bad ones back in by mistake. Did you get a code for all of those, or did he have it hooked up to that machine that shows it firing?
