    Re: Full Sized Spare

Maybe, this is something from Scott at Thunderbird Concept that could make it available including a floor map above the plexiglass with a Tbird logo.

For those living in Canada that would like to use a full spare tire in their trunk, I have 6 Canadian wheels in excellent condition including the center caps. The wheel itself in the trunk is a spare in case one of your existing 4 wheels is damaged. Mines are not. Just PM me.

I thought that someone here may have that info. If it won't fit in the well I won't spend the money on an extra rim and another tire.
Don't have that info but the spare tire that came with your car is the same circumference as your stock tire. Use that as a guide to whether the 235/55 will fit in the spare tire well. There really should be no clearance problem with your new tire size in the spare tire well.

          Re: Full Sized Spare

can the rim for the factory spare be used for a fullsized tire or must I also buy a rim when I convert to fullsized?

            You will need a rim.

Thanks Dot, I guess I assumed that the higher profile tire has a larger diameter, but that may not be true. When I get a chance I'll pull one off and try it. It's stored right now but I may get to it this weekend. We have had a very mild winter here so far but it's not over yet. Thanks again

                Dot,

Please explain " jack is repositioned" where?

                    Michael,

My last pickup truck had the jack under the passenger seat. I haven't even checked for the jack location of the new truck.

Thank you. I will do that.

As I am getting ready to install new tires, I have been thinking of using the best of the old as a spare.

Does anyone know of an alternative Ford/Lincoln old steel wheel that would bolt right on. Or maybe one 16 spoke laying around the garage that they'd like to part with (sell)?

The Thunderbird wheels are 17"x7.5" bolt pattern 5-108mm, if I'm not mistaken. It appears that a Ford Escape 2013-'17 has the same bolt pattern. For instance:

Triple check this to see if all the ducks line up.

I just removed the spare completely - made a plastic cover for the battery area and covered it all in gray trunk carpet. NOW I have a USEABLE trunk. I have not needed a spare tire in all these years and hundreds of thousands of miles so I am betting I will not need it. IF I have a flat there is fix-a-flat, tire plug kit, CO2 cartridges etc.. in the small compartment I made in the trunk. If a spare is needed THEN I have roadside assistance who will come out and tow if needed. The car is never far from home and very well cared for including regular once overs.

Bill: Have a 21 spoke wheel that I would part with . Would be good for a spare . How is $ 50.00 ? + shipping . ( Would need to remove the old tire . )

Never had a flat so no need to use the spear in 15 years of 125,000 miles of driving.
