  • Proper Use of California Duster???

Is it okay to use the California Duster on the soft top?

Or will the waxes & oils in the Duster harm or leave a residue on the cloth?

I think I've read its ok to use a lint roller, but don't try to make your own using masking tape.

If you want to clean your California Duster, go ahead and use it on the softtop. Then use your lint roller to clean your softtop.

Sorry Mike. Not laughing in a mean spirited way. Just that Phil's comment set me to laughing.

I've used the California Duster for years. The only problem I have with it is it getting snaged on name plates and emblems. Also, I've heard that you're not ever supposed to wash one? Any truth to that? Leroy

Please don't use it on a soft top. And also remember when you get a new one to wrap it newspaper and leave for 3 day or so to remove the excess wax or the rest of your car will not look good either.

                        Leroy, two suggestions:
O When I get to the script on the rear fender I always dust from center of the script to either side. In small areas like the V8 logo's we just have to approach a little less aggressively.
O Yes it can be washed: "California Car Duster is compact, lightweight, easy to use, and comes with its own carrying/storage case. Caring for your duster is easy... simply shake out the duster before and after each use. Should your duster ever become so dirty that it requires an actual cleaning, just wash it in cold water with a mild detergent and let it air dry. Your California Duster may never need replacing." as per thye following url:

I have washed these over the years with no ill effects. Just be sure to follow the directions in George's post above.

I purposely asked this question for three reasons:
First Spring is here with all its pollen.
                              Second HTs are coming off.

And thanks to MATBird I learned the Duster can be washed.

I already knew NOT to use the Duster on the soft top, but possibly some did not. I vacuum mine, but the Hoover is getting heavy to lift up there.
