  • Might Sell The Bird

Economy sucks. We have 3 cars for the two of us, but no jobs. I might either sell the '03 Bird or my '01 Vette. I might try and sell the Bird w/o the hard top and stand. If I do, I'll let you guys know. Bird has 32k miles and Corvette has 26k. Tough choice!

Well Kim it is a tough call, especially since you have more miles on the Bird. But, there are tons of Vettes on the road - the Bird is relatively unique so I stick with it - of course this is JMO and, in the interest of full disclosure, I do not and never had a Vette.

I have actually been kicking the idea of selling my bird to buy a Vette.

Sorry to hear that you're in that position Ken. What's really made this recession different than others I've been through is that if you find yourself out of work, it's so damn hard to get back into something else. In past recessions, some industries suffered but it always seemed like others were doing OK. This time it seems like everything from banking, automotive, retail, restaurants, tourism, services, etc. has all been affected. This "temporary" IT work I've been doing for over a year now after my previous job was outsourced feels like a job with no benefits or vacation. It would sure be nice to be able to find something more long term again.

I sure wish you could save both. I have had two Vettes and loved them. If the Vette is not a special edition, sell it and hope things get better. I was laid off twice from two different places, and both were different kinds of jobs. I retired after a couple of years with no luck. Anyone that lives in the Detriot area, or are involved with the industry, knows that this is a Depression and not just a recession. The Corvette is a fantastic car, but I see several in this area every day. I have only seen one 2002-2005 Thunderbird so far this year outside my car, and that was at a club event. I have belonged to several car clubs, but have never found the kind of kinship found in the Thunderbird hobby.

                    No it isn't.

I a Corvette as well as the Thunderbirds too....... I've had a few different versions of 'em over the years.

So I don't say this easily but......

The C5 is the new C4.

If you know Corvettes you know what I'm saying.

No way, under any circumstances, would I sell an '03 Thunderbird to keep an '01 Corvette.

I disagree. I've had a C4 before. The difference between a C4 and a C5 is like day and night. Still the decision is a hard one.

Sorry to hear of your ill fate Ken, hope job opportunities present themselves real soon. As for the Vette vs. the T-Bird. The T-Bird is more rare and thus more precious, both are great Americana, to be sure. While I have yet to ever even sit inside of a Corvette, I must say that the newest generation C6 body style is attractive, they are shorter like the T-bird, and the head-lights are no longer hidden, like the '02-'05 T-Bird. While I like the idea of comparing the new Vettes and the new T-Birds, each one of 'em has a good deal of merit of their own: performance vs. luxury. Good luck with the sale on whichever driving machine you decide to part with.

Ken, That's sad news. The two cars appeal for very different reasons. I guess if I were faced with that decision I'd like the idea of advertising both and see which sells first. Best of luck and hopefully this economy will improve.

                            That's debatable.......even on a comparison of the car itself.......but.......

I think you may have missed the point.

The Corvette you describe is seen EVERYWHERE now.

No way could I keep an '01 Corvette over a Retro-Bird.

This would be an easy choice for me.

                              Oh, yeah...pictures here are everything!

                              Vette vs. T-Bird

The Vette has dual after-burner tail-lights, however, the T-Bird's single after-burners appear to have a wider diameter! Interesting how GMC kept the Corvette true to it's mission (i.e. jet aircraft-like), through the years; while it took FoMoCo nearly 50 years to return T-bird back to it's mission!
