    On the Road Again

    15AGAIN, myself and a travel buddy will be leaving OKC on Aug 10 for a Road trip.
    I have attached a planned route for the driving route and one showing an Alaska tour. We are driving to Seattle and then flying to Alaska for the cruise.
    After the cruise we will return to Seattle and continue the road trip.
    If you are along the way and would like to meet up for lunch or dinner, sent me a PM with a phone number and where you are and I will call you when we get close to your location.

    Bill, Are you taking the Bird on this road trip? If so you can add a few states onto your map.

      If this heat hangs around, I hope you're doing the northern half of the loop first. We've got friends that are on an Alaska cruise/tour now and they picked the right time to go way North!

        Bill,

        Looks like you will fill in the missing states on your signature map. Next you'll have to plan on driving to Alaska and shipping to Hawaii

          Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9 Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

              That's a great road trip Bill...

              If driving the Thunderbird, don't know why you would give up driving in B.C. to get to Alaska. It is the best country you will ever see, other than Ontario...

              I always flew out to that part of the States myself...

              Hope to do the full length of Route 66 some day, start to finish with my Thunderbird, that is my goal...

                Driving the whole route from Chicago to LA would be a great excersion. Although a number of books and may help locate the surviving elements of 66, it is not easy to do due all the construction and rerouting of the original route. Since I live in Oklahoma, I have already mapped out several versions of the original Route 66 across Oklahoma that I intend to drive in the next few weeks...if it cools down some.
                Oklahoma still has a lot of the old road and has preserved it better than most states but it is still a challange to locate all the pieces. During my investigation, I discovered that there are many different paths that 66 took. After US66 was officially decommissioned, some states picked up the ball and made their own version of 66 under state designations. The current OK66 is a close approximation to the old route but there are many side roads you may want to travel if you want to see some of the really old versions of 66 including some of the original 9 ft wide paved sections that still exist.
                Go to Google Earth and follow 66. Some great pictures of stuff along the way.

                  A couple asked if I was taking the Bird on this trip-- Yes that is 15AGAIN I listed in the post.

                  We are starting with the southern route 1st and after this trip I should have 46 of the lower 48 states in the Bird.

                        Bill, you know we are jealous that you will be filling in those northwest states before we do next year.

                        Have a great trip and scout out some great places for us to go.

                        See ya at Redneck Riviera! There will be stories to tell about Alaska/The Northwest and Europe/EuroThunder.

                          Hey Bill, It looks like Glacier National Park is on your route. When I was there last year in mid June the road that goes through the park from west to east was still closed because of deep snow. By the time you get there it should be open. Be sure to check out the lodge on Lake McDonald, it is really something to see!

                            Cal, I drove the Red bus # 87 in the summer of 05, worked out of the Lake MacDonald Lodge. They are having a bus driver reunion the 8th --10th of Sept. so I am attending that.
                            They were supposed to start rebuilding the roar in 07 and it was to be a 5 year project.

                              Leaving on the road trip in the morning 8/10/10 --heading out I-40, plan to be in Fresno by Thursday night.
