If you're of the opinion that automobiles were designed to be stored why in the world would you feel compelled to respond to this thread?

Since it's raining out I guess I'll take my "rusty CRAP" car for a ride, hopefully it won't melt!
Because there is more than one way to approach it ......... no need to get all defensive if the comments I make differ from your opinion.

This applies to "Driven" cars too. I don't store my T-Birds and yet wouldn't even consider driving 'em in the winter. It's as much a matter of parking what would be a miserable winter driver so as to be "safe" as anything else. The idea that the car won't suffer the damage over time is but a fringe benefit.

It's more than just barely relevant to suggest there is another way to go here if it's your intention to keep the car for any length of time beyond what is "typical".

I can assure you I've worked on a great many cars over the years. The difference between cars driven in the winter vs those protected from the salty roads is significant.

BTW- Sarcasm isn't exactly the best way to get a serious response to a question.

I hope you'll consider that before responding to a post of mine again.

Regular use of a power buffer will shorten the life of a finish as much as road salt IMO

OK, Lets go over some daily TBird Winter needs. How about a remote starter so the windows are all defrosted and it's nice and warm inside after it's been exposed to zero degree temps. Good thing we have those heated seats too. Don't forget to have your snow removal tools with you to scrape that stubborn ice off of the windows before you drive off. Rear wheel drive can be a problem in deep snow so it's a good idea to have a set of good snow tires put on and don't forget the mud flaps. Make sure your windshield washer reservoir is full of some good Winter fluid and you have a set of those heavy duty Winter wiper blades, that salt on your windshield can be blinding if you can't wash it off quickly. Some folks like to put a can of Heat in their gas tank to prevent gas line freeze-ups. It's a good idea to keep a set of jumper cables in the trunk with some good gloves and a warm blanket incase you get stalled. Leroy

Leroy you just jogged my memory back 9yrs. If I was still in N.Y. my trunk would be getting loaded up with all the items mentioned. You forgot a small spray can of lock de-icer in the coat pocket for when you get the rain freezing up your lock when your out.I didn't carry a lighter or matches so when I got locked out this became standard equipment to carry.

"...Regular use of a power buffer will shorten the life of a finish..."

Absolutely agree. However. There are time when a Power Buffer is very useful and appropriate. The word "regular" is NEVER to be considered.

There does come a time to remove the build up. In which one should use care in both the removal and re-application of the layer's of protection.

I guess the Car Care world has come ten-fold. The new polymar's are awesome, and as mentioned above this is not the area when a Buffer is to be used. However for any use of one, the Porter-Cable is by far the best out there for ease of handling and application.

and....who knew..........the word's Zaino and easy, could ever be used in the same sentence.

Found this link on Auto geeks, http://www.autogeek.net/winter-car-care.html
                    Winterizing Your Car's Exterior

Originally from the Northeast I wish I had to worry about winters. I would move back in a heart beat but since we retired from the Navy down here the wife wants nothing to do with driving in snow. Me I miss it.
