Manuel Shift feature

Hey guys and gals! Will someone tell me, in layman terms, how to use Manuel shift in my Cashmere bird?Bosco

Flip the gearshift to the right for the SS feature...then read the owner's manual!

Put the gear shifter over to the far right. Look on the dash indicator to see what gear the car is in, pushing the shifter forward shifts the gear up, pulling the shifter back shifts the gear down. You'll see the numbers 1 thru 5 change on the dash indicator. To get the feel of it, take the car for a drive on a not to busy road using the automatic or D5 at about 50 MPH, then put the shifter over to the far right, take your foot off the gas and pull the shifter back and release, you should feel the car down shift and slow down and the dash indicator should read D4, you can continue doing this till you get to D1. Too shift up put your foot on the gas and accelerate as the RPMs go up push the shifter forward and release and you'll feel the car shift to the next gear and stay there till you shift up again, and remember you can always tell what gear you are in by the dash indicator. To go back to automatic shifting just pull the shifter over to the left and put it in D4 or D5. I only use D5 if I'm going 50 MPH or more. It's alot of fun once you get the hang of it. Leroy

One nice feature on our MKS, is that FORD switched that feature around. Tap it down now to up shift. A lot more fun :-)

On my 08 Malibu LTZ you put the shifter in M for manual and shift up and down with little levers on the sterring wheel, and always have two hands on the wheel. Leroy

I can't rely on the dash gear indicator - sucker is virtually invisible unless it's dark out and the dash lights are on...

JUST A TAP REARWARD WILL DOWNSHIFT MINE, OR TAP FORWARD WILL UPSHIFT. GREAT IN THE MOUNTAINS. TAP TWICE, UP OR DOWN TWO SHIFTS AND SO FORTH. NO PULLING OR PUSHING REQUIRED ON ANY OF MINE. THE 2002 DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.

I traded in a Trans-Am with a 6 speed manual transmission for the T-Bird.
I do miss that manual, clutch & everything. I enjoyed it.

On the Jaguar, you can use the paddle shifters anytime in any mode (drive, sport or dynamic). In drive, if you use them it will stay in the manual mode (with the gear display automatically going to numerical) for about a minute if you don't make a shift; then it reverts to automatic shifting. You are correct about the digital display on the TBird - you can't read it, and it is not in your line-of-sight - annoying.

Is this what you need "¿" (Hold the ALT key down and type 0191 on the key pad.)

THE NIEMAN MARCUS HAS THE SS, BUT YOU HAVE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER TO THE RIGHT FROM D5 TO D4 AND THEN DOWN FOR 3, 2, AND ONE. NO TAPPING, YOU HAVE TO MOVE TO THE NOTCHES.
