    I don't blame you. I'd be really PO'd too.

The incorrect diagnosis of a WORKING compressor is nearly criminal. At best it's incompetence ...... at worst it's a deliberate attempt to remove a few extra bucks from your wallet.

A working compressor with enough refrigerant in the system to make cold air come out of the vents, as you observed, will reveal itself with the VERY LOW TECH shade tree mechanic observation of a temperature difference between the low pressure and high pressure lines under the hood.

A dead compressor makes no cold at all. A live one will be OBVIOUS before ever hooking up a tool.

You have every right to a full on "hissy".

Sadly until you KNOW the mechanic and shop you're dealing with well it's never easy to know if you're getting the actual COMPETENT diagnosis or the "let's just start replacing stuff and see what happens" treatment.

A mechanic with a good head on his shoulders and an ability to accurately diagnose is worth every penny you pay.........the other guy...... not-so-much.

I'm with Go-bird on this one though....... glad to hear you found a reason to be more optimistic about your car! That's the happy ending I didn't see coming and best part of all this.

Yeah theese cars can be a pain sometimes but all makes can and as we get more exotic cars the pains will increase with tecnology. If you are the type not to want to deal with this you will have to go to a very common basic car and trade at end of warantee and be just like everty other clod on the street or ???? You can have a T-BIRD with all the uniqueness and thrill of turning heads every where you drive and every once in awhile deal with a pain. I don't consider a 2 seated roadster a typical primary mode of transportation for many people, but a toy and something for fun. That being said tho' I would be pissed at a dealer trying to scam me out of an A/C unit.

Sal, Did you think about waiting for the 2012 Focus. I'm going out in Feb. and ordering the new one. Although if you got a 2011 you probably got a better deal.

                Thomas,
Your AC needs a dual coolant control valve. You can buy one at the dealership and replace it yourself or have some independent shop do it. Current retail price for the part is about $165.
