  • Had a chuckle today--

While I returning to my car after shopping for groceries a lady with 2 small children in her mini-van asked if I could give her a jump. You should have seen the look on her face when I backed my Bird up next to her opened hood, then popped my trunk. She said she thought I was a slightly confused retiree until she saw my battery !!

Out of habit i probably would have pulled up,opened my hood and then she really would have been confused.
Always a good feeling helping someone out.

Bought a 2000 Buick LeSabre from my mother's estate. One day I needed to give one of my other cars a jump. I couldn't find the D#$n battery. Aftr much frustration, I checked the manual and found the battery under the rear seat! Boy did I feel like an idiot.

In the days before mandatory self-serve gas, I would enjoy driving in with my '57 Nomad and watch patientlywhile the (very) young station attendants tried to figure out where the gas goes.

....nice of you to help....I am reluctant to use the roadster as a booster because of the complex makeup of electronics/modules...If the person's car you are going boost has other issues.....and cooks your electrics.....where are you then?

                      Re: Had a chuckle today--

My mother has a Lincoln LS. Last summer very late at night the horn started going off (turned out one of the modules failed). Well, two of the neighbors, self styled car guys, came out to help and they told her to open the hood and they would disconnect the battery. She told them it was in the trunk, and you can imagine the looks a comments about the dumb lady who thought the battery was in the trunk. Boy were they surprised - equally that the battery was in the trunk and the lady knew what she was talking about! Sure showed those "car guys".

You try to pump your own gas in NJ, and they'll slam the gas door on your fingers.

Fortunately, they let me pump my own gas in the 64 Galaxie because the new gas nozzles will not seat properly.

Also, I give them a look of death when they come close to the car.

Had a '57 when we first married...traded it with by b/in/law for his '56 Nomad...then traded that for a new Nova...I was young & dumb (now I'm old & dumber).

True, the batteries are in the trunk on our retros; anybody know if there is jumper posts under the hood also? Not to make anyone feel dumber...

Hey, don't fret. I had my Bird for a LONG time before I discovered the jumper posts that are hidden under the hood. It was a triple A man who arrived to get me started once. He was surprised that I did not already know. Live and learn.
