Skirts look good if the design of the car was meant to support skirts. Skirts should blend in with the car's lines, not stand out.

Retro design doesn't fit the mold.

In the case of the square Birds, the style lines of the lower quarter panel were also included in the design of the skirt.

Susan, the knock-off would not be a problem since the skirts don't come down to the hub, again they are to short.

Guess this is the retro's version of a mini-skirt.

Watch it there Brad. You are marking yourself as one of those "others". But what you say is dead on. Some add ons work some don't. And for us "others", this add on doesn't work.

It is your car so mod and enjoy as you wish ... Would I put them on the 04 Raven? No.

If you like them that is what counts.

This Retro in white gives a better idea of what the skirt outline is and as suspected, it sits on the outside of the rear quarter panel. Not quite as appealing as the white skirt that Rick likes.

I always thought skirts would look good on my bird. But as long as they were FLUSH with the body lines and not sit on the outside. Someone needs to make a flush set to give the body style a smooth longer sleek look as per post # 34.

These Retro Bird skirts look to me like they're half of a skirt. In my day skirts fit on the inside edge of the rear wheel well and were held on by pins that went into holes along the inside edge and there was a lever handle you could move to release the skirt if you had a flat. The skirt filled the entire wheel well down to the rocker panal and bottom of the rear quarter panal. The 57 Turnpike Cruiser skirts however did fit outside and over the wheel wells but still were held on the same as the tear drop shaped skirts and could be removed with out any tools. As far as I'm conserned, no skirts for my car. Leroy

Well, I am a live and let live kind of guy...but my opinion is.....

I agree with Leroy. half a skirt. Would like to see a full skirt, but it certainly is possible that the body falls away to soon and too far to support such a skirt.

Here's a skirt like Leroy is talking about.
This one fits inside the wheel well.
I was not a fan of the Cruiser Skirts.
This was my new 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible, in 1957.


Sorry for the quality of the pix...but this photo rode around in the bottom of an Air Force duffle bag, various suitcases and finally a few dresser drawers before it got any respect..

Here are several pictures of my 'Bird with skirts. I added them the very first year I bought the car and never took them off except once to fix a slow leaking tire. It made me realize how much I have to have them and that I definitely do not like the look of my car without them. I always thought that Ford should've offered them as an option. But curiously, unlike what "Ol'Dave" said, mine do not and never did rub, even with a full trunk, but I have stock wheels and tires which might have something to do with it. The only reason I can think of that would have the tires to rub against the skirts is because some aftermarket wheels have less rear spacing than the stock ones, pushing them outward a little too much, causing the tires to rub.
Also, "Vintage Merlot", "Bradford" and "ThunderBubba", to me even if they look "added-on" like you say, SO WHAT, WHO CARES??...All that counts for me is that I like them... You got to understand that there's simply no way to mount these flush because there's nothing to fasten them to...
And last, about the '57 Turnpike Cruiser skirts, well at the opposite of what probably everyone here thinks, I find these just plain U-G-L-Y because they extend all the way to the rear bumper, they don't let you see part of the rear wheel at all and make the car look like it weighs 5 tons! Uuugh! :

Well, you asked...NO! I like that the Retro Bird is a modern interpretation of the Birds of yore. I feel that skirts ruin the clean lines of the Retro Bird. It gives a heavy tank-like look to the back of the car. I don't mean to offend those who like them, but that's just my own perspective.

Turnpike Cruiser skirts nice I had them on my 1955 Ford convertible.

Hey! No reason to attack the people that don't like the skirts. The starter of this thread wanted opinions and he got them - a bunch of people don't like them and would not put them on their cars.
