      Re: New Tbird Contintental kit

When Aaron first came out with the trunk rack, I suggested a kit to hold the spare tire that would fit the rack and free up the trunk for luggage, Wished he would have tried that instead of this funny mess.

I wonder if this design would be legal. It obstructs the view of the existing liscesce plate location... It provides no means to mount nor illuminate the rear liscesnce plate.

          Re: New Tbird Contintental kit

There were several concerns when in '56 Ford tried to solve some of the complaints about the limited trunk space by installing the spare out back:

          1. Due to the weight and placement of the spare tire "system" the balance of the car changed and the front end became lighter and the steering was changed due to the reduced weight.

          2. Everything you put in the trunk had to be lifted over the tire and lifted over the tire again when you took it out.

I would suspect that this design would suffer all of the same problems '56 owners had with their cars.

At least the '56 version was "integrated" into the design a little. This version appears to be just "stuck on."

          I am not interested.

I am not defending this. It is ugly as sin.
But, it is a prototype at this point. There will be a framework for the license plate, etc.

I don't see how it will help.

She was a good one. Sold 12/30/2014.
Replaced with 2013 Infiniti G37 Coupe.
A lot better car and even more exclusive, but doesn't have the Cachet the Thunderbird had. Adios, mi Amigo.

I do not think it is attractive to the flowing curved lines of the retro Bird. It is too big too heavy in appearance.

                Re: New Tbird Continental kit

There was a guy at the FWHQ 50TH event that was trying to take orders for something similar that he had rigged up with a trailer hitch mount and a Rav4 spare tire cover. Looked just as bad as this. Just way to heavy for the sweeping lines of the back end.

I wavered back and forth on the trunk rack and still don't have one, not sure if I will, maybe, I don't know. But it's is a sure thing that I won't have one of these.

After reading all the negative comments,I'm sure Aaron will drop the idea like a hot potato. Who would he sell them to?

Hate to be so blunt....... but it it was an eye sore on the original and it's no better as a "retro" idea, IMO.

Ruins the clean lines on an '02-'05 as surly as it did the '56 when it was first seen.

I'm sorry but that car is the automotive equivilent of making over Cindy Crawford so that she'd look more like Sandra Berhard.

Wrong angle. Just does not look right.

I've always wanted to put a windup key on the roof of a smart fortwo.
