    Re: Getting Rid of Car

You can complain directly to Ford about dealer service. Go to http://www.ford.com/help/contact/. Under E-mail US About Vehicles and Service, you
can select, Ford. Enter very specific info about the issues and submit.

I know this sounds like it could never work, but I had a problem with my Volvo transmission a couple of years ago (it exploded). I made an similar online inquiry to Volvo and learned there was a "silent recall" on specific years. Bottom line, Volvo replaced the transmission, no charge. I realize your situation isn't quite as dire, but a direct, non-inflammatory description of the issues could get some positive results.

$140 just to change the oil on a BMW?

They must have tacked on a bunch of BS stuff, because that's just insane.

            Re: Getting Rid of Car

That's about the correct price for an oil change, however it is done at extended periods and they check all sorts of things. The new BMWs come with an everything included warranty including normal servicings. It's when you have to pay that everything is very expensive. I looked longingly at a used 3 series -they're nice cars, but the run flats and crazy service prices just didn't work for me. When I'm at a light and 2 or 3 BMWs are around me I feel that I made the right decision for me. Seeing a TBird is an event.

Lady T-Bird: While you are preparing to sell your T-BIrd. Would you indulge me for a bit. I am an old VA Chaplain, I do know a bit about overwhelming circumstances. Lets start with the primary one...."Traumatic Brain Injury." Thank you sir, for putting your life on the line. One problem our culture has..we pay ridiculous salaries to those who entertain us and barely pay those who protect us. What an indictment on our culture. You are appreciated here for what you did and many more just like me would stand by you any way we can. You are an experienced mechanic, er technician. Can we start with one area that you believe is malfunctioning? Many of us has shop manuals and could help you diagnose. Is it possible you have a defect in your ECM sending you on a chase to areas that don't need repair? Can we start with one piece and go from there?

                  Re: Getting Rid of Car

I definetly think you have a dealer problem and sadly that is way too common. I have a nephew who is a Ford tech and he recognizes how many unqualified people are out there. No one has mention the wireless accellorator system but that or a similar electronic problem is likely the cause. The trick is finding a good analysis without out trial and error changing parts. I never understood why a dealer who tries a new part with no improvement can't put the original back on

Earl's right--there is enough collective knowledge within these forums that we
SHOULD be able to get this puppy fixed. They got Apollo 13 back, so let's fix this Bird!

Actually, that was quite normal. The 'free' oil change (while under warranty) is for every 15,000 miles, but of course they recommend it be done sooner, which of course will cost you $140. Then after the car's out of warranty, it's the $140 for each change...and that's only for the oil, filter and disposal fee. God forbid they should discover you need wiper blades, at which point you just opened your wallet and gave them all your credit cards. We'll NEVER buy another BMW.

You'll probably want to mark Jaguar off your list also because I believe that's about what they charge after the "free maintenance period" for their 15,000 mile or one year maintenance that basically is the full synthetic oil change and filter. BUT that really means one of these a year - not the every 3000 (mostly for the dealer's pocket books), 5000, 7500, 10,000 or 12,500 mile changes some other brands required in the past or now. I have a friend that bought a Hyundai Sonata 2.0 turbo, and the first change was required at 3,000 miles. It was free, but you had to pay extra if you wanted full synthetic so his bill came to around $40.00 (the intervals are longer after that).

If it hasn't been mentioned the issue with the rev limiter I would guess the switch that tells the computer you are in park or neutral is bad or something with the computer. I know you can disable that feature with an xcal.

Which would be MLPSwitch - Check reference voltage from the computer. There are two channels. Should vary from 5v .1 or less. If more, its cooked. Ref voltage is a tell all for Ford computers.
