    Re: Getting Rid of Car

This message is for Earl the Va chaplain. thank you, I will let my husband know about the ECM, although he found another problem with the airflow sensor. When you touch it, the car will shut off. Tbird will run and idle, but won't go over 30. I'm praying this sensor will be the last thing to change. again, thank you, for your help.
ps sorry for not having a better knowledge of the working's of my Tbird.

So you get no dash light errors coming on? Cam positioning sensor? It sounds like it's in limp mode, but what's causing it? Come on folks, we CAN figure this out!

Completely out of monies. Probably one sensor away from fixing the car but just can't put any more into it. I guess I need to sell the car. Probably have to sell outright. Anyone want a LEMON CHICKEN.

Part substitution is the best way to troubleshoot, since a computer analysis will not always give you an answer.

Ford should have a program where parts are available for substitution, that can be returned to Ford in re-salable condition.

I never understood why a dealer who tries a new part with no improvement can't put the original back on

They typically don't take back electronics, and if you don't correct the actual problem the replacement part might get fried just like the original.

Something doesn't make sense, if you can't afford to repair this car how will you be able to afford to repair the replacement car (especially since your payments will be higher paying off the 5k loss on this one?)

                    Re: Getting Rid of Car

Our car started acting up one day two years ago...they ended up changing the throttle body. The car would not idle or run all of a sudden; it would just stop and 5,000 idiot lights came on. Cracked throttle body they said and replaced it. I have the original part and it looks fine to me.

I think a few corroded connections really affect our birds.

What readings are you getting at the diagnostic plug? That would help us focus on your problem(s).

Yes it doesn't really make sense. It seems like a big loss to take compared to repairing the car. If you're not having success repairing it yourself at this point, I would drop the car off at the Ford dealer and tell them to call me when it's running again. The repair seems like it has got to be far less than $5,000 and they have more resources to effect the repair (i.e. diagnostic tools, swappable parts, more experience with this model, etc.).

If you don't have enough cash for the repair, put it on your credit card since you have good credit. Paying off a repair on a credit card has got to be far less than paying another car loan that includes the $5,000 deficit.

I can certainly sympathize with all the frustration though.

I will second your opinion on Bill Jarrett in Avon.

We purchased our Thunderbird from them through the internet and phone back in 05.
Everything went very smooth and they were very honest and did not add any dealer fees.

We live in Orlando so it is too far away for service but will assume they shine there too.

Still waiting for the IAC sensor, Meantime Ford has agreed to give me XPLAN pricing should I decide to trade in the bird. Not sure that is the way to go. Neither the 05 Focus, 04 F-350, or the tbird have been very good for me. Traded out from each looking to get rid of the lemon only to end up with one worse than the one before.

You may want to try cleaning the IAC first, not unlike the MAF I believe it's ok to clean it using the correct electronics cleaner. If you haven't done it already you should consider cleaning the throttle body as well.

yes, i took the opportunity to clean all the electonic connections under the hood. That seems to be what several people have said. It certainly doesn't hurt to try. however, cleaning all the connections still did nothing to resolve the issue.
                              thx

Just to be clear, with the iac and the MAF you have to remove them to get at the internal electronics to clean them and not just the connectors, and with the throttle body you have to remove the hoses to get inside.
