Re: Inca Gold Spotted in the Florida Keys May 2012

    Gene,

They are stiff and loaded with that fabric softener stuff when they are new. Can't say I'd want to rub that on my car. I have been using the soft used ones on cars for several years and they work well on the bugs without harming the paint.

Even though we drive our car, I do try to keep it looking nice during trips. Never know when one of those TOTM opportunities is going to arrise.

Sure wish I had known about this trick before we went to the Dearborn event a couple years ago! Part of the PA bug population is permanently imbedded in Moondoggie!

I've used brand new ones to clean the cars never a scratch and just rinse good for any residue.Remember were not wet sanding the car.

All great suggestions. I will have to try that.

Re thinking about taking the Tbird instead of a leased MKS which is already 5,000 miles less than allowed.

I just got the annual oil change (actually 13 months) and realized we only put on 469 miles. Part of that was 2 of Toms Cruises!

During the LOF and inspection of the car my mechanic found that both rear adjustment rod boots or seals had cracked and split. The replacement comes as a whole rod assembly so with the new parts, alignment and labor at around $425.00. Not too bad for 7 years.

Now your thinking. I was going to suggest you rent a car but you have a leased MKS
to me its a no brainer. I'm going to catch flak for what I'm about to say but here goes.
The T-Bird to me is just a toy that I take out on occasion for a joy ride with the wife.
Its not a practical car for a trip no storage space, seatbelts dig into your shoulder etc.
I know for many of you its your daily driver so more power to you,but I bet for most its just a weekend toy. Leave the Bird home and let the lease car take all the salt and
              bug splatter.

My Birds have never even seen our driveway in the Keys and never will. No room for dogs, scuba and fishing gear, clothes, etc, etc...only the Expedition will grace Islamorada.

We hope to get to the Keys sometime in the next couple of years. Wouldn't even be considering the trip if we couldn't make it in the Thunderbird. Sure it would be a little more comfortable in the SHO, but that couldn't come close to the pleasure we would get from seeing everything with the top down, the radio cranked up and the wind in our hair.

C'mon Kieth, enjoy the adventure! You will love it, more than you will worry about the trunk being small or a few bugs along the way.
