I've had a lot of convertibles but never had one with a cloth top. I would think they are more difficult to keep clean. So I bought some kind of expensive cleaner and protectant from Thunderbird Concepts. I hope it works and will be worth it. I'd hate to have to buy a new top because I neglected the one I have.

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Your Soft Top?
I run my car through the car wash all Summer and the soft top gets the soap and wax just like the rest of the car. My top is 8 years old and is Black and looks perfect. When it rains the water beads up on it. It's also garage kept and never intentionally driven in the rain and garaged all Winter. Leroy

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Your Soft Top?
When I first got mine it looked horrible with mildew stains. It is Ash gray so they really showed. After trying every expensive top product sold I reluctantly cleaned with a mild bleach solution and soft brush. The mildew came right of and then I applied a top dressing. That was a year ago and all looks well. Cleans up with car soap and water.

I use Bradford's solution on mine, both of which are light (one sand, one lt stone). You can find it here:

Mike, The product I got from Thunderbird Concepts says on the package "Tested and Endorced by Haartz". Hearing that many just wash their top when they wash the car is good to hear. I just want to do anything I can to keep the top in good shape.

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Your Soft Top?
The owners manual recommends using Motorcraft Detail Wash (part # ZC-3-A) to clean the top. (page 151 in my '03 manual) It is available at your dealer. I use the Detail Wash a few times each year, but mostly just vacuum then wash it with a quality car wash. I treat it with Ragg Topp each spring. After 9 years the top still looks good. Please Note.. Any spelling and/or grammer mistakes are copyright of the author.. Mistakes will be numerous and common...

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Your Soft Top?
Allen, I have gotten the same cleaner & protector from Aaron at TBC and it works great. I have a Red Bird with a Black top. I vac. the top. hose it of when washing the car spot clean areas if needed and then hose it off. I also spray it about every other month with the sealer of water protector that comes in the kit... I looks great.... If it does get in the rain the water beads up on the top... Most of the time I do not drive mine in the rain. If raining I'll drive the Caddy or the truck.. Good luck.. Aaron will take good care of you on your needs from TBC...sigpic
