My CD Player no longer working. When I press CD, it says no CD/Error. I still have CD's in the player...any suggestions?

    Re: CD Player

Evidently a common occurrence. After 6 months of almost constant useage mine did the same as yours.

Many will mention sticking a credit card or another cd in to "pop" the stuck cd out. Didn't work for me. Pull it and ship it to many repair shops (use the search function) or Ford will replace under the ESP for the $100 deductable.

If you're going to pull the unit, this may help, and post 19 may take care of the problem if you can't free the cd with a credit card:

Search old posts, this is a fairly common issue. Good luck, please let us know how this shakes out.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. It may cause a reset. This has worked for a couple of people on this site, and it was suggested on one of the repair links here.

Make sure you only put commercial CDs or Copied CDs with NO paper labels in the player. The paper labels make the CD too thick (and maybe cause problems with heat).

Have posted that my cd player has a stuck cd in it. Have got a '02 unit coming from a buddy and bidding on a harness from PIE to get my iphone music to play thru the car.

Well lo and behold I'm driving down the road and out pops a cd, an "initializing" message pops up on the screen and the music on the next cd starts playing. Spooky but I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Will not use labeled cds, was there something about thickness of cds. Don't know any thing about these players. Should I leave the empty slot empty? Any other do's or don'ts to keep this player working ? any maintenance that might help.

In winter, the grease in the changer mechanism (2002) is cold/hard. Do not change CDs until inside of car is warm. Or else have the changer serviced with new lubricant.

Had some close calls in winter but now I make sure the car is warm before changing CDs until I decide to work on the radio/changer.

And oddly enough if the dash gets too hot from being parked in the sun during the hot summer days the same problem happends until the interior cools down a little bit

That would not be a hardened grease problem. It would point to an electrical or other mechanical problem.

Quite often, the laser that reads the CD fails. No count, the $140 repair is the best solution if one fee covers all failure possibilities. Let us all know.

Mine required a new worm gear..the gizmo that houses the CD's. Total cost about $240..$70/labor included..but the player works now...1 year warranty on the part...always something...

Had mine repaired by SPL Electronics in Missouri. $125 with one year warranty with quick turnaround. $15 shipping. Works great.
