This tread is for anyone who has installed a Flowmaster exhaust system to their cars. I'll start by saying that I replaced the rear mufflers with 40 series Flowmasters, welded in and saving all original parts. I later took off the two inline resonators and replaced them with SS piping. I also extended the stock tips two inches to get past the rear bumper edging. Total cost was around $300. Tell us of your installs and variations.

Re: Flowmaster Club Members
Joe there was a slight drone at around 2200rpms, but by moving the stock tips out further it was gone. The Flowmasters are shaped very similar to the originals but the exhaust pipe is a couple inches longer allowing room to move the stock tips back eliminating any drone. The appearance is also enhanced.

Re: Flowmaster Club Members
I started this thread mainly to show that a less expensive way is available to obtain a real V8 sound from our cars. But in my opinion anything we do is of a personal choice. As to changing the tips the same reasoning applies. I think Ford's tips are just fine. If they had made them any smaller or of less quality I'd have changed mine too. I picked Flowmasters product because of the quality and the fact that they closely resemble the originals. I removed the inline resonators due to the drone thinking that was the problem only to realize that it was the tips placement. IMHO what I did has improved the cars breathing. I'm sure that some ribbing is inevitable as I'm a magnet for it.

Re: Flowmaster Club Members
Following this thread with interest. I have no Flowmasters: I just cut the rear muffler/resonators off and replaced with straight pipe. I love the sound, but it does drone at ~1700 rpms. Nothing that a little skinny pedal exercise can't fix :) Extending the exhaust tips helped a little, but did not eliminate it as others have reported. I tried multiple adjustable exhaust tips....all the same result. Overall, it's tolerable, but I wondered if adding a Flowmaster back in might eliminate it....sounds like maybe not.

Re: Flowmaster Club Members
Thanks Mike for saying it is an interesting thread. Gratitude is an attitude sometimes missing here. As to the drone, the way I did my car it eliminated the drone. I believe with the stock setup, the tip ends do not go past the fiberglass, which concerns me about fumes especially at an idle. For under $300 I'm well pleased.

Re: Flowmaster Club Members
Greg, do you happen to have a picture of your extended factory exhaust tips? My first 2 birds had the flowmaster tips, and then Borla's. My new 02 is all original and I think I'm gonna stick with the quiet, but I'm considering moving the stock tips back a bit but I'm curious how they look. Thanks!

Gary ! I live over in Thomaston if You get over this way . I took off Originals and the Resonators & installed magnaflows if You like to Hear them before You change ? . I was like all here it seems trying to find video so I could hear before I did but was not successful .. I am well pleased with the sound myself . I left the stock tips on mine as I liked the look of them myself !

Re: Flowmaster Club Members
I have often thought that the OEM exhausts were strange in that the tips came out short of clearing the bumper. I expected to see some damage on bumper cover, but that hasn't happened. I am still considering removing resonators and extending tips a couple of inches. A little sound is O K but prefer it to stay " outside " the car.
