      Re: TOP ON TOP OFF

Hello RareOldBird. The top came off last evening and as usual the weather turned bad today. Cold and cloudy. I had a hard time figuring out the torx screws.. They felt loose when I turned them and it seemed like I turned the darn things forever. When I tightened them after raising the convertable top they turned forever and never felt tight. Is that normal anyone? Do they get tight? I pushed up on the top and it seemed to be secure.
      Thanks.

        Re: TOP ON TOP OFF

Bob those screws are there just to secure the hard top to the body & have nothing to do with the rag top. They will tighten when you put the hard top back on.

I can't stand it! 65 degrees today and better than that tomorrow. The top has been removed by mechanical lift.., after some tense moments. Tomorrow I drive the convertible!!! I might not be able to sleep tonight thinking about the ride.

I am in Tennessee and tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 70s. I am so looking forward to a trip tomorrow to the Smokies. Sometimes I think Tbird owners have a disease when warm weather comes along.

                Re: TOP ON TOP OFF

Supposed to be warm here in Jersey this weekend, so the top will most likely come off.

Even if we get some bad weather in the next few weeks, the car doesn't get driven in rain or snow (now), so weather's not an issue.

It'll be a different story when I retire next March, sell the 94 TBird (and my 58), and start using the 03 TBird as a daily driver. I'll be driving it in all weather except for snow/ice.

That's when the LS will come in handy.

But, I will be driving the TBird after the streets have been plowed.

                  Re: TOP ON TOP OFF

Jerry I used to drive from Trenton to Paramus to work in the old Alexanders Dept. Store. Used to frequent the Cuss From Ho. I think I was driving my Opel Gt then. That was back in the early 70's. That job didn't last long. We could be setting some temperature records this weekend in Florida. It could be 86 by Saturday. I put the top down every chance I get to drive it. Its the wife car. Hey you could always retire to the sunshine state. A 58 Bird sounds sweet what a second car. Several others here are lucky to have an old & a retro Bird. I'm not one of them. I sold my other birds years ago they just required to much work. The square Bird was a great style. Maybe you will reconsider selling her if she is still in good shape.

The cuss from Ho. Man, that sounds familiar, but I can't quite picture where it was. Forest Avenue/RT 4 maybe?

Early 70s, I was a picker/packer at the Ford Teterboro Parts Depot.

There's a shot of my 58 Bird in my gallery (along with my 64) and the original 58 sales papers from Hackensack Ford. The price for the car (and the options) will shock you.

2nd owner, unrestored, 61,000 mile original "little old lady" car, needs some TLC. Rechromed back bumper, new front seat covers, new dash pad, AM/FM/cassette, original carpet.

We are back in N'fk again - and I'm just so happy to walk into the garage & see my Goldilocks. It was cold and nasty when we first got back, but it's in the 70's today - and though the top is still on, what a JOY to be able to drive her again! I have also aquired a second Pomeranian, and I quickly discoverd, 2 Poms in a T-Bird, um...NOT!

Jerry we probably had one to many back then or now its just CRS. Anyway I doubt if the Cuss is still there. Hey that 58 is sweet & with the original invoice. Those were the days. Buying a new car for under 5 grand. That would almost buy the engine in a retro bird. Hey if I hit the lottery I'll buy it from you. You should enter that birds at the lake photo in the TOTM contest next time. Its a great piece of photography. Say that Galaxy is pretty neat too.

The yellow bird belongs to my wife and she will not let me take it off. Been on since we bought it in 2002.

                              RareOldBird

I bought the 58 in 1989. It had 49,000 miles, original. Sitting on four flats in a garage for years. The owner, a 93 year old widow (my wife's uncle's neighbor), finally decided to sell it. I actually had seen the car in her garage years earlier at the invitation of my wife's uncle.

She told me how she and her husband really wanted the two seater 1957, but they waited too long to make a decision.

That's when I slugged her with a shovel. Heck, I could have had a two seater instead of a square bird if they had moved a little quicker!

                              Just kidding, of course.

She's passed away since then, but boy, could she chew my ear off. When I stopped to ask about the car in 1989, at age 93, she was still mowing her small lawn with a push/manual mower! RIP

Notice her trade in? A 1950 Nash!

Hey Jerry talk about your little old lady stories. Hey look at the bright side. If you went over there & saw a 57 convertible you probably would have had a heart attack on the spot. I bet she had fun fun fun drivin that Bird around. Maybe she used to park it out front of the Cuss & stop in for a few.
