The model is molded in color = coral outside, black interior with clear and chrome plated parts.
this means you can paint this model any color you like. The ideal base to make a color that was never available in diecast.

        Gordon & Frits,

The all Black, 1/25 scale by Maisto was available in the Collection sets and as give-a-ways at Ford events. No Top. About the only way you'll come across one now is on ebay or from another collector.

MotorMax also made a 1/24 scale in all black with or without a black hardtop. The MM model does not have a 3rd brakelight whereas the Maisto above does. It came out before the production cars did.

Thanks Dot. Not sure where I got mine. Probably e-Bay as most of the models I have.

            Thanks for the information everyone.

I will probably eventually buy one of the Maisto 1:18 scale which to me not being an expert looks to be a very nice detailed model,(even though it has that red accent interior).

Dave R offered me a tiny 1:87 in black so I will then have a collection of two.

            Thanks again, Gordon.

                Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

I collect 1/18 retro TBirds and other cars that I think had or have outstanding designs that stood-up and/or will stand up over time and are significant cars.. Some examples that come to mind are: the Shelby Cobra, all Shelby Mustangs, Ford GT, Continental MKII, Studebaker Golden Hawk, Mercedes SL, Mercedes CLK, Jaguar XKE, XK8 & XK, first two generations of Corvettes, Dodge Viper, Bentley GT, 55-57 Tbirds, 67-68 Mercury Cougar, etc. Looking for a Jaguar XJ13 now, but they are not currenlty being produced and go for well over $200 on Ebay when they come up which is very seldom.

                  Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

                  Hi again,

As I just mentioned in a previous post, all this model collecting I am not familiar with. Just out of curiosity, is 1:18 the largest scale model made in large numbers or is there a larger, more detailed scale produced?

All I know of the modell die-cast world is what I have picked up off this site and I can't recall seeing anything bigger than 1:18.

                  Just learning, Gordon.

                    Gordon,
As far as the Retro Birds go, 1/18th is the largest diecast. I've seen other cars that are available in scales all the way up to 1/5th.

This is a great thread. The pics are really special.
I myself have a good assortment of cars, pick up trucks and even a city bus on my train layout, all representing the 1950s. All in 1:43 1:48 scale.
I am trying to find a 1954 Mercury Montclair in the 1:43/48 scale.
Can any one be of help?

                      Thanks!

Not sure if anyone is looking for any of the 1:24th scale team Thunderbird diecasts or not, but this guy has several of them at a really good price. He has a good feedback rating. I don't know him or have any vested interested, just passing on a possibility.

I have one of those 1954 Sun Valley models in the yellow and green from Argentina that the guy told you about in response to your question. I'm not really sure where it is at these days but I do have one.
