    Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

    Frits,
I don't know the exact scale of the little one in this photo - All I know is, it's the size of a US dime.

    it's supposed to be a 55 tbird.

    just checked - it's 1:128 or 1.6 cm

    I haven't seen a 1:144th either - that equates to 1cm

Rick, You're way ahead on putting the models together. My kits are still in the box. kept getting glue all over the place when trying to put some together in the past so stick with just putting together the "snap-together" kits.

Nice collection Rick. Love those clear cases you keep them in.
Are those home made or sold somewhere?

The Carney site is great. I bought mine from Fairfield Mint and I think they cost about $60 each at the time (2003) I bought them. Wow...that means I have $600 worth of those things.

                  Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

I have 750 diecasts in my collection. 50 of them are 1/18th retro birds. The white one has escaped me, for now. Display cases are not a problem for me as I have been a carpenter for over forty years. Retirement is looming over the horizon and I have many kits to build in my spare time. Diecast collecting has added a lot of enjoyment to owning my Thunderbird.

No the one that is advertised as 1:144th scale is a NASCAR Thunderbird. I have my doubts that is a true 1:144th scale given the picture that Dot posted.

                    I'm attaching 3 pictures.

The red Retrobird picture shows one version of each scale that I have:

1:87th (High Speed), 1:72nd (approximate of scale of the keychain car), 1:64th (Matchbox), 1:43rd (Motor City USA), 1:25th (Maisto); 1:24th (Yat Ming); 1:18th (Maisto). Hongwell makes a true diecast in 1:72nd scale but they are not available in red.

The #6 Valvoline Thunderbirds are in the following scales:

                    1:144th, 1:87th; 1:64th, 1:43rd, 1:32nd, 1:24th and 1:18th

The last picture shows the advertised 1:144th Valvoline car in comparison to a 1:87th Retrobird.

I really wish Danbury or Franklin Mint would make a Retrobird diecast so that we would have one highly detailed 1:24th version.

I don't want to hijack a thread, but here's a Revell Black with either a white or silver top - Snap together plastic model
And,I don't recall it being discussed before:

George, I found the kit number85-1924 in my collection - the graphics on the box show a coral bird but the optional paint guide on the side panel lists "silver and satin black" so suspect the model shown on their site is a painted model - possibly one done at the factory to show the optional colors. The model is molded in color = coral outside, black interior with clear and chrome plated parts.

                              Hi there,

I have to fall into the non-collector area but I am still looking for a good 1:18 scale of a triple black which I now know from previous mails has never been produced. I did see a smaller model that was all black but I forget who made that one.

I just like the idea of having a miniature version of our full size car. If anyone is familiar with the smaller scale that is all black, I seem to remember it sounded a bit Japanese or Chinese, I will be ordering one of them.

                              Thanks, Gordon.

Gordon, Maisto makes (or made) a scale 1:24 model without hardtop that has the all black interior.
I have one, but not sure if they are still available. Dot?
