      Thanks, Gordon.

            Gordon.
            Gordon,

I believe that there have only been two all black retro bird models released in the United States by the various diecast manufacturers, the 1:87th one that Dave sent you and a 1:25th scale Maisto version that also came without the top. The latter was not widely released and are difficult to find but they do show up on eBay every now and then. There is also a 1:72nd Black/Black Top/Black Interior by Hongwell/Cararama that has also been very hard to find and hasn't really been available in the USA.

There are several other black versions available that are very nice and would provide some variety for you or give you the stating point to paint the car to match yours with little effort. The ones I can think of off the top of my head are:

1:72nd Black/Silver Top (Hongwell/Cararama) - these have been hard to find but Frits is offering them to members for a very reasonable price.

1:43rd Black/Black Top/White interior (Minichamps) Limited Edition of 1008 - not inexpensive at about $25-30 each. The incorrect white interior could be easily painted black.

1:43rd Black/Black Top or Top Down/ Red Interior Concept Show Car (Motor City USA) Limited Edition of 600 - very expensive white metal models that retailed for about $125 each when new. You probably wouldn't want to alter something like this.

1:43rd Black/Black Top/Red accent interior (Maisto) - limited availability and hard to find in either the individual car package or in the Detroit press kit. You would not want to modify one of these.

1:25th Black/Black Top/Red Accent Interior (Maisto) - still easily available via eBay for about $10 or less. Would be easy to modify.

1:25th Black/No Top/ All Red Interior Concept Show Car (Maisto) - same easy of availabilty as above. Also came in kit form which is a little harder to come by.

1:24th Black/Black Top or Topless/Black interior with yellow accent on door panels Concept Show Car (MotorMax) - door panels easily painted but the car has the concept steering wheel and a silver center stack in the dash - still readily available on eBay usually around $10-$15.

1:18th Black/Black Top/Red Accent Interior (Maisto) - same as the 1:25th. Relatively inexpensive and can still probably be purchased for $20 to $25 or less.

1:18th Black/Black Top/All red interior Concept Show Car (Maisto) - same as the 1:25th. Relatively inexpensive and can still probably be purchased for $20 or less.

1:18th Black/Silver Top/Silver accent interior Neiman Marcus Limited Edition but not sure how many were made (Maisto). Usually goes for between $50 and $100 eBay You would not want to modify this model.

That is all the black retro birds I can think of, but Dot's website should list most everything.

Dang Paul, I never looked that close in the interior of the Motor Max and sure enough, there's yellow on the door arm rests. It was a concept model so does have the "silver painted" center stack too.

But you did miss the Cararama all black 1/72 - I've got it set aside for you remember?

Guess there's only 3 all blacks for Gordon to look for.

Goes to show you I don't even know what I have, ha! It has been so long since you got them for us (even though we recently discussed a pick-up point), I guess it just hasn't become reality for me yet.

                  Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

Okay, Paul or Dot...I have the 1:24 with yellow door panels and silver stack, but how can I tell who made it? Under neath it says:
                  Made in China
No.68069 - -----and below that it says:
                  Scale 1:24
                  2000 Ford
                  Thunderbird

Hood, trunk, & doors open and mirrors fold in. It must be very early since it says 2000 instead of 2002. And no where has it got a manufacturer.

One last note: There is a bar code label that says; "1:24 Scale 2002 Ford Thunderbird (Convertible) 73238D"

George, That's characteristic of Motor Max models. and yes, they probably thought at the time that the car would be a 2000 year model. All their chassis are marked 2000 Ford Thunderbird. Since you have a bar code tag with 2002 Thunderbird on it, yours was produced after mine were. MotorMax is still producing the model in yellow and black & maybe other colors?. and their model does not have the 3rd brakelight.

Only MotorMax has produced the 1/24 scale diecast models -
Maisto's always has their "brand" on the chassis and theirs is 1/25 scale.

                        Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

                        Hi there,

Just got back to work after taking lunch and I just thought I would share what I saw hanging up in my local gas station.

Very small models of 1955 T-Birds in several colors attached to key rings. They were only $3.75 so I bought one so that I could relay the info back to Dot and you other avid T-Bird collectors.

I'm sure that you have all come across these before but just in case, here is the info from the base of the car:

                        1:64 scale
                        1955 Ford Thunderbird
                        KINSMART
                        Made in China

It also has clockwork windy-up front wheels.

I was hoping to buy a black one but the cols they had were baby green, horrible yellow, baby blue and bright red. I've got the red one.

                        All the best, Gordon.

                          Hi again,

No need to reply. I just got back from Dot's website and I see that all these wee cars are listed there.

I'll let my grandson have this one or I'm sure the cat would have a great time chasing it around the floor.

                          All the best, Gordon.

Gordon, It's fun to take that key ring car and run it across the table with the chain draggin behind.

A good Saturday morning to all.

Dot, I was wondering why the full size version of the key ring car never made it past the 1955 model.

I guess there were not enough folks around with keys that big. It would also cause a lot of sparks when heading down the road as well.

Really, I'm suprised they even picked the key ring version to make a model of.

                              There ya go. Gordon

I was thinking the same thing Gordon. I almost posted the suggestion of 'reversed thinking' this morning. Since it was you that made me try out a 1:18 TBN badge, this one almost had me try out a 1:1 key ring. Wonder how much attention that would draw while driving through town..
