    Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

    Hi Frits,

I now realize why the full size prototype of the 1955 key ring Thunderbird never went into production.

The chrome on the big key ring wouldn't last two minutes. Ford could have solved that problem by supplying a nice strip of foam rubber to the underside which would prevent scuff marks on the chrome and also cut down the amount of sparks whilst travelling down the high street.

One thing for sure, if the 1:1 key ring car had been produced there would be a mad rush to de-chrome the key ring and get it sprayed to match the body color of the car.

All the best, have a great weekend, Gordon.

          Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

Too bad the vote cast blocks the other possibilities...I collect just about all kinds of things with wheels including an 1830 Royal Coach made for the Piedmont Italy royal family as a model to show what their new "gala" coach would look like. What I would say is that after all these years of collecting I think it is a waste of time and money if you look at the prices on E Bay.

I do have a question. Does anybody know how to remove the undercarriage of a Hot Wheels toy car from the body without damaging one or the other?

The item is in England. I'm not sure how much postage is there but it wouldn't surprise me if the shipping was pretty close to actual cost, considering what it costs to ship something in the United States these days.

I believe the only way to do it with the least amount of damage is to use a drill to break though the brad and then use a screw or an epoxy type glue to reattach the body to the undercarraige.

they said I think 22.00, but I was talking in general, shipping is outrageous, some are lets say, you win a bid on a car for 8.00. then some charge 15.00 for shipping when you can ship USPS 8.00 and some change no matter how much it weighs, they charge more for shipping to make more on the item

                    15.00 - 8.00 shipping = 7.00 for handling,
To wrap address and take to the post office or UPS store

I agree with you about shipping in general being expensive and I think we do see a lot of sellers on eBay trying to pad the profit with high "handling" charges.

As far as how much someones time is worth, I don't know that for sure but I generally am not willing to pay too much for it. I place bids with the total cost in mind including shipping and "handling", so it really doesn't matter what they think their time is worth or how much extra they are trying to make on it.

                        Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

I posted a reply yesterday which got lost somwhere in the site's infidibulum. I said all collecting of things with wheels, which is pretty much what I do, is a waste of money. Consider the E Bay prices of stuff originally costing ten times as much as what they go for on E Bay. I asked a question. Does anybody know how to separate the body from the undercarriage of Hotwheels toys without damaging either piece?

                          Re: Diecast Car Collectors Poll

Thanks, Paul. I did find my posting after I resent it. For what it's worth the only way I've found to separate the two pieces is to buy two of what I want separated because I always damage one or the other. Gorilla glue works to reattach the pieces. I'm sure you are right. The drill would work best. Thanks again.

This poll/thread is 5 years old and doesn't mean a (nice words) thing. It's outdated. Time to close it. Somebody can start a new one.

I'll post this thread and then report it to the Admin. Here goes.
