AT A CAR SHOW YOU ARE UP AGAINST OLD CARS AND YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT CROWD OF PEOPLE. EVERYDAY PEOPLE ARE STILL IMPRESSED WITH THE RETRO BIRDS AND LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE OUT AND ABOUT WITH OTHER NEW CARS. YESTERDAY SOMEONE ASKED ME WHO RESTORED MY 2004, BET THAT NEVER HAPPENS WITH ANY OTHER NEW CAR. IF YOU FIND ANYTHING THAT MAKES PEOPLE SMILE BETTER THAN THE NEW BIRDS, LET US KNOW.

At various times I've been asked if I restored it myself and other times if it was the original paint!

Well no, not quite. People look at my car as if came from another planet...or worse, they simply don't pay attention to it...

          It is just a cruiser.
Not much HP, (the 02 was very low HP) doesn’t handle, the tranny never knows what to do, and the brakes are so so.
It has no memory seats or mirrors, not much room in the cab and they sold these for over dealer list at first. Too much money, not much bang.
I paid $32,000 new and that was too much.

But I am glad they stopped building them so we have the only ones.
          That does make them special.

To answer your question, my 64 Galaxie.

I'll be riding down a four lane road in the right lane, and someone will come up on my left. But, instead of passing me, they pull alongside (slightly to the rear) and pace me for a while. (They're either looking at me or the car. My vote's on the car.)

Sometimes, when I want to move over a lane, I have to wait until they've seen enough and move on.

WELL, YOU SHOULD TRY THAT IN A 1954 LINCOLLN CAPRI CONVERTIBLE OR A 1955 FORD COUNTRY SEDAN, SAME THING. BUT YOU WOULD EXPECT THAT IN A OLDER CAR, NOT IN A 02-05. I HAVE SEEN YOUNG PEOPLE TELL THERE PARENTS TO LOOK AND ASK WHAT KIND OF CAR A RETRO BIRD IS.

                Color is also an issue.

My Galaxie is painted Peacock, which is a very bright turquoise. Most cars woulkd look terrible in Peacock, but, with a ton of chrome, Peacock on a 64 Ford looks good. (Similar color to 57 Chevy turquoise.)

Whereas my retro is black, and doesn't really "pop". However, when it's parked, the saddle interior grabs people's eye's, even TBird lovers at TBird carshows.

When I take my pristine 2005 Thunderbird to a car show in 45 years for the 100th Anniversary of the Thunderbird, I'm willing to bet you it will get some attention.
There it is! No question about it.

I'm not even sure why anyone would bring a new car to a car show anyway. If it's HEAVILY modified.......sure!....... but a mostly stock spit polished clean example?

                  Why?

Car shows, to me, and I suspect most people are about rekindling memories from decades past and seeing something you just don't see anymore. Also just the work involved in restoration or the appreciation of a SURVIVOR and the stories of how it got here are why I go.

Who knows? 40 years from now someone may well pull up in an OLD Retro Bird and the crowd will flock to it but the idea that it gets little attention today shouldn't bother or surprise anyone.

Good thing you got the '03 with it's MASSIVE power increase over the '02 instead!

                      Hi Spence:
This is Charley McCloskey. I'll never forget your kindness by giving me the matching paint so I could paint the bird on the 02 chrome wheels in Destin.
I loved my 02 from the moment I got it, and still do. I only have 23k miles on it and would ask at least that much for it. Of course, I have the Borla exhaust system to make up that horsepower in the later models, but more than that, in Destin, a few of us got the project engineer from FoMoCo to autograph our cars under the hood. Ford did cheap out on a few items, but I love this car as much today as the day it was new. I get more comments on it than I did on my Rolls Royce when I had it.

Have any of you noticed how infrequently the "spotted a tbird" thread is showing up lately? I haven't seen another retro other than a friend's since we got back from our trips this summer.

I also am satisfied with the Bird. With a CAI and Borla exhaust the increase in power is more than satisfying to me.

It's too early for me to vote since I've had it less than a week. So Far very satisfied. Buying used was nice but I had to go through a guy that was sellling it on consignment and could not talk to the owner direct about the car. Getting a history report helped and only 9300 miles, I feel safe that eveything is ok. I just hope I don't have issues because my wife will say "you had to have this car!"....It was hard to buy used because I could not get exactly what I wanted..settled for an 03 over an 05, price, etc....but having this site is a great asset because I know I can come here if I need any advice and the friends I'm going to meet....AD
