I have had the same experience here. Both male and female from age 16 to 70 plus have stopped me to make positive comments and /or ask questions about my 2003 red Thunderbird. I have enjoyed every mile. I would like to have a few bells and whistles i.e. collapsible hardtop instead of the removable hardtop, but it has been a great ride.

I don't have a "thumbs up" meter, but I think my old Ford would win over my retro.

But, as time marches on, and the numbers of us that drove and owned cars of the 50's and 60's gets smaller, that ratio will most likely change in favor of the retro.

I have to admit that as much as I love cars, anything earlier than the 50's, with a few exceptions, gets a look from me, but not a lot of interest.

We have owned our '02 since 2004 and we are completely satisfied with the car. Most important are the wonderful friends we have made at Thunderbird events in British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Thunderbird people are the BEST!!!!!

Love my Bird , but there are some things i would like to have seen done differently. For one I wish they would have used the 3 valve 4.6 Ford in it and the automatic that comes with it. I would like to see a drive train which could handle over 400 hp with ease. I would like to see a top which disappears into the body like my 64 bird did.I would like to see ford CONTINUE to make replacement parts. I see too many parts on the DISCONTINUED list.

Other than that, I like my bird and i am glad that they bought it back. I came close to buying a 1955 bird black on black in high school that need a lot of mechanical/cosmetic work but unfortunately that never happened. I had a friend back then who put a 427 side oiler in his 55 bird with a 4 speed. Nice fast car.

If they build it again , how about the new 5.0 motor with 412 hp and possibly a supercharged version as well.

If they do repeat our retros and throw in 412 horsepower along with all the other "good stuff" they left out ... our resale??? not to mention my dissapointment and envy, Let's hope they go electric.

Bought the car five years ago today (12-29-06). Have put 3,000 miles on it since then. Car could have been a little more "peppier" for my taste.
But so far I'm a "satisfied" customer.

I think you should buy a red one to find out. You already have a Coral which is a cross of a Torch Red with a Whisper White.

5 years in FL and only 3000 miles.
You don't need peppier...... if it taks you a year to go 600 miles.

If I had to vote again, I would change our vote from 'satisfied' to 'somewhat satisfied' or worse. I am sorry I ever traded our '02 for the '05. It's been nothing but a service nightmare, and ranks up there for us with the other 2 worst vehicles we've ever owned (a Datsun and VM Rabbit), and is by far the worst American vehicle we've ever owned.

Tranny issues (in over 20 times)...cooling issues (in over 10 times)...softtop issues...and the list goes on. And don't tell us to try another dealer...we have. The extended warranty expires in June and we won't be renewing it as I'm not sure I will continue to own the vehicle. If I could sell it and find another IG that was dependable, I'd probably go that route. To say it's been a disappointing 7 years with this car is an understatement. In our opinion, for Ford is wasn't Job One...it was JOB LOST!

Well, I think if you really wanted it to run you should have bought a 2004 merlot and sand. Bought mine second hand. First owner ruined the top putting it up wet. But other then I will be replaceing it this or next year Its never seen the inside of a workshop. That was acutally a dumb thing to say. now I'm doomed got to find me some wood to knock on, quick.
