I had a couple Triumph spitfires and a Austine healy 62 or 63 bug eye. I used one spitfire for parts and keep the other one going. complete junk traded the spitfires for some house renovations. The Austin was fun when I was younger ,,much younger. but it fell apart. I could not afford to keep it running. The TBird was not cheap and has had its issues but buy far easier to work with. Added a little chrome under the top and cowl on the hood. Added Ipod/phone connection to the radio. All very easy to do. I still have things I want to do. The wire wheels and white wall tires. So I have a ways to go. This will be my last "Toy" so I treat it like a baby.

I'm still a new optimistic owner. My heart still flutters every time I see her.

          Right now my complaints are:

          1) road noise at 70+ mph. (I know how to improve it)

          2) water droplets etched into the paint (I know how to fix and prevent that, too)

          3) slight engine noise coming through the center A/C vents. (It will probably be louder when I install a CAI)

          4) The lady who owned it before me scratched up the steering wheel and the door handle with her keys. Typical woman, grabs the keys, then with the same hand either grabs the wheel or the door handle. Probably a gigantic key ring with brass knuckles, a rape whistle and pepper spray dangling from it. She also nicked up the aluminum door panel and cut a notch out of the inside chrome door handle. The outside handle has more than its share of nicks and chips, too, most within an area about 3" in diameter. Just sloppy and careless if you axe me.

          5) "MIRADA" tires. They fooled me. At the dealership, all I saw was "MI" and my brain took over from there and convinced me they were MICHELINS! At least they're new.

Aside from these VERY minor complaints, my car is perfect.

Mirada is apparently made by Yokohama.

I'm fairly satisfied, it's a great car and fun to drive. But for the money Ford did a poor job on overall quality.

I've had to replace the transmission and radio within the first 3 years (I have an 02).
I've upgraded the speakers, there should be an overall better sound system for a $40,000 car.
There is the paint issue with the hard top and the leaky windshield and gasket that cause all the COPS issues that Ford not only failed on design but failed on taking care of their 02' customers.
I spent over $700 to have one COP fixed last summer, now more are bad. Thanx to this forum I've just ordered more and will be replacing the rest myself.

That's a lot of issues for a $40,000 car with only 50,000 miles on it. Especially when a $10,000 junker (Saturn) runs for $120,000 miles with 1 repair (fuel pump).

I debate selling it as I wonder how much more $$$ this car will cost to maintain.
You are mostly right. The cars get the looks but while the looks pour in your wallet gets attacked at the same time so overall you are paying people to say nice things to you while you drive or in my case a setting car waiting for some part that needs to be made so I can drive away and get more compliments.

Still can't compare to the suspension problems with the high-end Mercedes (SL, CL, S500) or the ridiculously high cost of routine maintenance on a Corvette. I suppose we could have bought Mustangs or Camaros. Maybe even--<shudder>--a CROSSFIRE!

I'm happy with my ride. I thank God that the prior owner took good care of her. COP was done last fall by him. At 65, I thought passion was gone, but I'm really enjoying her and the comments she gets. When I read of the problems had by others, I wonder (but not worry) when my turn comes. She gets a 9.5 in my book. Finding this forum has been a real plus....

It's showing as "new" because someone voted in the poll. They didn't leave a comment which makes your old post the last one you see.
