That's the same for me. I put about 500 miles on the original tires and the majority of the current mileage is on the DiamondBacks.

I'm interested in the Diamondbacks and I'm asking those that have them, how did you get them? Did you order them through a dealer like Discount Tire or Tire Barn or had them delivered to your house or a tire shop? What's the best way to get a set of these. I'm interested in the Red Lines for my 04 in the 235/55/17 size. Leroy

                  Re: Orginal Tires

I would not trust tires more then 6 to 7 years old. Purchased my 2005 T'bird a month ago. Although the original tires looked serviceable, I could see very fine cracks between the treads. I replaced the tires with Michelin Primacy MXV4s and took the opportunity to increase the aspect ratio to 55 on the advice of some of the members here on this forum.

In 2007, I ordered the T-BIRD NEST SPECIAL whitewalls from Diamondback Classics by calling them directly at 888-922-1642. Take a look their website: www.dbtires.com

I got the whitewall Contintental 235/55/17R, which must be run at 36 psi cold. It's a little bouncy, but not too bad. Other TBN'rs (DavidA) have gotten whitewall Michelins from Diamondback.

Diamondback shipped the tires out here, via UPS, to our home. Then, I took them to my local private tire shop to install. Easy-Peasy!

Don't order them through a national tire dealer unless you know they will handle Diamondbacks. Find a local tire shop to work with.

What was T-Bird Nest Special? Do they give TBN members a discount or something? Leroy

Jerry.... I also have the Continental Diamondbacks. Wasn't aware of the 36psi requirement. I've been running mine at 32 with no problems and great ride.

In 2007, Diamondback recommended 36 psi cold to prevent damage to the white sidewalls.

T-Bird Nest Special was a one time deal offered in 2007. Call them to see if they have any specials going on now. Also, ask what brands of tires are available now with the wide whitewalls, or what brands of tires can have the whitewalls added. Things have probably changed in 5 years.

                              Re: Orginal Tires

Bought our '02 with 60,000 miles on it. The tires weren't original, and still had plenty of tread left. Thought things were OK until about 3 months later.

Happened to be checking tire pressures, and got a close look at the tread area. All the grooves between the treads were spider-cracked. Since all our miles are highway, decided not to mess around, and replaced them.

Shouldn't have to worry about tires for the next 40,000 miles, and the peace of mind is worth it.

Don't forget to check the original spare tire in the T-Bird trunk. You might be surprised.
