Re: Vet Pays Back Hanoi Jane

Kevin, you keep talking about forgiveness. After all your ramblings about your past and present on another thread, don't you think it's time that you show that forgiveness toward your parents and sister?

It might be a good idea to keep the attacks/comments focused on Jane Fonda and The Spit Boy instead of making them toward each other.

That's how it "gets personal" and the trouble starts. We all have our opinions, and this isn't about us, just our opinions.

I think maybe Jane has grown up since her antics during the Vietnam War, but this guy who spit tobacco chew obviously hasn't. He would've been far more effective directing his words toward her than his spit.

But what the hell, he's received all kinds of publicity, and even has us talking about him. It just goes to show that all you have to be to become newsworthy is controversial.

If Kevin/Sam posts his difficulties with his family publicly here on TBN, he should not only expect empathy and understanding from his fellow TBN members, but also suggestions for how to deal with it. I think that's all SixPac and some others have tried to do...

No one is going to change their mind about anything said so maybe it's best to just move on with something else. This isn't why a few of us started TBN in the first place.

I heard part of a TV interview whch was played on the radio (a conservative station, granted) and she clearly does not have a clue as to the causes, dynamics, politics, or implications of either the Vietnam war or the current war in Iraq.
I think her antics in the 60's were a reflection of her hatred for her father and an effort to garner attention and publicity for herself.
It was mentioned that she said and did nothing when thousands, maybe millions, of
Vietnamese people were murdered by the Communists when the US pulled out.
Looking at her "case" from just an objective point of view, she should certainly be in Leavenworth right now for going to the enemy and siding with them.

Jane Fonda paid a visit to Dayton in the early 70's. She was accompanied by her then husband, Tom Hayden, and she spoke to a group of anti-war types at a local fairgrounds. I remember one print news reporter, a liberal type, who was totally enamored with Fonda, until he overheard her making fun of his looks in whispered tones to Hayden. She was giggling about his "ugly teeth" and appearance overall. Obviously, she lost one fan that day. I was present, for other reasons, and overheard it too. She struck me as an effete snob back then. Still does as a matter of fact.

Bruce, what if you don't care about her one way or the other?
Shouldn't there be a neutral choice?

Sorry no neutral choices here you either do or you don't.

Bruce, You should have given another choice. I really don't care one way or the other about her. That would make it a fair poll.

I could say I'm sorry but I'm not. This is the kind of thing that is going to do TBN in in the end.

These threads only serve to revisit some painful memories by some....nothing good comes from the obvious emotions driven by opinions of others. Put fuel in your tanks, not on these threads by posting popularity contests for what you know the answer for.

Gobird sorry I got caught up in this. I usually walk away when these conversations get started. It is just a little harder to keep my mouth shut when you can go back each day and re-read these comments.
I will no not post another thing on this subject, as I know from past experience to stay away from religion and politics. No one will change anothers views and can cause a break up of a fun group.
that said I am truly sorry for getting involved in this conversation But like Jane I will not apologize for my opinion.

Re: Vet Pays Back Hanoi Jane

You know, this is one of the frustrating things here. Maybe this should be moved to the forum, Politics and other Serious Issues, but it seems to me to be a valid topic, even though it IS controversial. I truly cannot see this "ending TBN" because people here have opinions. Why is this any different from the discussions that were going on about the general election? Yes, a great many people have long harbored loathing for Hanoi Jane, and her behaviors, and yes, a great many others do not see her actions as wrong. So what? Everyone is entitled to their opinions. As for Hanoi Jane, she was NOT a youngster. She DID know what she was doing. She did NOT apologize for her actions, save having 1 picture taken where it looked like she was shooting down planes. She still justifies all of her other actions. She refused to see any good that our soldiers did. She condemned the MEN, the soldiers, who, out of their willingness to defend and serve, gave their time, their health, and their lives to TRY, unselfishly, to save others, who DID want our help, from a living hell (One has only to see the actions that occurred after we pulled out to understand this). I have no problem with people voicing their opinions. I don't see why others do. I've seen no flaming, no name calling, no negativity here...only people talking about current events, related to a "media person" who DOES have to live with the consequences of her own actions. JMHO
