Re: Vet Pays Back Hanoi Jane

Good for you, Oh fearless leader of The Gypsy Thunderbirds. Nothing wishy-washy about Tony or is it Toni. Certainly someday your going to have to make a choice about that also.

I'm with you Bruce, I'm a vet myself, and I refuse to see one of her movies, and for gods sake I would never read the B....'s book! Her father would be ashamed of her, as I'm sure God is.

If this wasn't such a politically correct world, she would be in a federal pen for treason and sedition.

I silently questioned Kevin's judgement when he sold the bird for an SSR, but his comments on Fondas behalf, are disgusting! But to each his own, it is his right.

Yep, it's his right. I wonder how well his comments are being received on the SSR site.....hmmm, maybe I just answered my own question. Since he's still posting here, perhaps they haven't been as tolerant on the SSR site as we have been here.

          OlDave,

I see that you've deleted most of your photos in the gallery. I hope it's because you are getting ready to add more, and not because you've decided to leave TBN. Come on back you old River Rat. There are many of us here who are honored to call you friend, and there are several of us here who are proud to call you brother. I, too, have become discouraged by postings like Sam's (aka Kevin), but, as many have pointed out to me in PM's, rantings like his will soon pass and things will get back to normal around here. Get back on board, brother. There are many more here who miss you and Claire than don't.

            Dave and Claire,
Double, double ditto what Ray said. A lot of us have missed both of you at the Nest. If you need to sound off about something call, email or pm me anytime but don't just go away or let someone run you off because of an erred comment.

Ray's correct!....Back on post #14 of this thread, I broke my silance and I asked you to come back. Then Jim Young's post #15 and now Ray's current post.
I think you were heading, back home, this way this summer, maybe we can meet once again. At the Mustang show?- Or Portsmouth.....in June?

Re: Vet Pays Back Hanoi Jane

Jane Fonda was on "Real Time with Bill Maher", a HBO series, last night and they talked about the spitting event in Kansas City and her book "My Life So Far".

She's a self-admitted liberal and activist, and said her mission in going to Vietnam in 1972 was to expose the lies of U.S. administrations in starting and escalating the war there. She made no apologies about that, and explained the circumstances of sitting on that anti-aircraft gun, but at the same time being regretful and apologetic for that and the way it was portrayed and exploited.

Here's a book review of her current book: "At 67, Fonda looks back on a full life with insight and more than a tinge of regret. The actress-cum-activist-turned-aerobics instructor (and now philanthropist) has a lot to say and, for the most part, it's interesting-if readers can hang on through the too-frequent, lengthy passages of self-analysis. Fonda clings to the theme of defining herself through the men in her life, starting with her father, the detached and intimidating Henry Fonda, and moving through her three husbands: Barbarella director Roger Vadim (1965-1973), student activist-turned-politician Tom Hayden (1973-1990) and self-indulgent philanthropist Ted Turner (1991-2001). It doesn't matter whether Fonda's paying for her acting lessons at Lee Strasberg's studio by modeling for women's magazines; trying to internalize the role of a prostitute (for 1971's Klute); or engaging in a threesome at the request of Vadim-she continually feels inadequate. Perhaps it was her mother's suicide when Fonda was just a girl, or her parents' unhealthy marriage. Whatever the reason, Fonda has struggled with feelings of insufficiency and codependency-and eating disorders-for much of her adult life. She discusses her controversial trip to Hanoi in 1972 (writing those chapters in the present tense), rueful that she allowed herself to be photographed on an antiaircraft gun, yet insisting, "I was framed and turned into a lightning rod for people's anger." More weighty than the average celebrity memoir, Fonda's remembrances, while wordy, nicely sum up more than 50 years of American history, seen through the eyes of one well-traveled woman."

In our paper, today, is a quote from Jane. When asked what advice she would give Britney Spears on her pregnancy ("Dr. Jane Spock"??? like she could/should give advice on this?? what goofball even asked her??) she says, "What would matter is, has she given birth to herself yet to where she can raise a child. I was 31 when I had my first child and I hadn't given birth to myself."

                  IMHO, what a fruit loop............

Many times we make hero's of the wrong people. Hollywood calls it actors "stars" and we believe it. Sports writers refer to athletes as "All-Stars" and we believe it. Political party's call their members "Statesmen" and we believe it. The problem arises when "they" read the press clippings and "they" believe it. Where is Bob Hope when we need him.

Re: Vet Pays Back Hanoi Jane

I'm EXTREMELY tired, and I don't really know what made me get out of bed to post this.
As far as Bob Hope goes, I have always respected his support for our troops!
He is a true American Icon!
I half to tell you though, I had a co worker who told me once he couldn't STAND him!
I was in total disbelief, and asked him why?
He had worked for a local radio/TV station in Midland at a time when Bob Hope was making an appearance, and as he was setting up the sound equipment, around the stage area, there were a bunch of children running around underneath the stage, filled with the excitement of the moment, and he heard Bob Hope say, "Can't you do something about those G*d D****d kids?"
He said, after that he had no respect for that man at all!
I always thought that was rather severe, considering all he'd done for our troops, (Including my father), over the years, but the co worker, who was a father of two young boys, never forgave him. He said he was "A Mean Old Bastard!"
I just finished watching the last 30 minutes of the interview between Tim Russard, and Jane Fonda.
And I must tell you, that even though I've taken up for her in recent years because of things I've read in print, nothing I've read has EVER made me believe from the bottom of my heart, that she was REALLY sorry for what she did during the Viet Nam War, even though I've argued with some of you about it.
Seeing, and hearing, her tonight, made a TRUE believer out of me!
She didn't back down from any questions, make excuses for herself, and admitted when she'd done something entirely stupid, and wrong, including posing on the anti-aircraft guns!
This woman has come clean to her wrong doings, and apoligized for what she did! POINT BLANK! Without any excuses, or beating around the bush! She has said that what she did was WRONG, but it may have brought an end of the War in Viet Nam, sooner, and saved lives!
Watching her on TV tonight, as I was trying to relax, and go to sleep, actually made me feel better, for taking her side. I was afraid it would make me feel tense, upset, and not be able to sleep.
There's something about hearing her explinations coming from her own mouth, and NOT the press, that actually make me truely believe what she has to say, with 100% sincerety.
It's obvious she's not a young "bombshell" any more, but she's still pretty, and very much a mature woman. I have no doubt, that she's a "Born Again Christian", (no matter what my own feelings are, about such things!)
I can't help but remember when the press interviewed the mother of one of Jeffery Dahmer's murder victims.
They told her about his acceptance of the Christian faith, and asked her if she thought the man who'd murdered her son had gone to Heaven?
And that little old lady said, "If he repented for his sins, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, then yes, I believe he is in Heaven.
I remember thinking what a TRUE Christian that woman was, much more so, than I.
                          Goodnight.

Re: Vet Pays Back Hanoi Jane

Kevin, I Do Understand What You Are Saying About A Man Or Woman Standing Up And Saying They Made A Mistake And They Are Sorry.

I Would Be The First One To Accept Them And Their Apology And Think Of Them As A Man's Man Or A Woman's Woman.

However, Honestly, I Don't Think You Understand The Point Here. It's Not So Much About Making A Mistake And Saying I Am Sorry.

Its About A War. Its About Young Boys 18 To 21 Of Age Dying And Never Haveing A Chance To Live A Life, Have A Child, Or Anything Else Plus The Hurt They Dying Brought To Their Family, Friends.
Wether The War Was Right Or Wrong Is Something Else. The Point . Is That We Were In A War. In A Jungle, With A Very Formidable Enemy. Our Boys Were Dying, Our Boys Were Losing Limbs, Many Of Our Boys Got Hooked On Herion Supplies By South .

It Was A Night Mare For Anyone There, Especially In Combat. For Jane Fonda, An American, From A Wealthy Family To Physically Goes To North Viet Nam, Kissing The Ass Of The Vc And Posing With Them While We Were Getting Slaughtered Is Close To Treason. This Goes Way Beyond Someone Making A Mistake And Saying I Am Sorry. I Would , As I Said, Forgive Anyone For A Mistake Who Is Big Enough To Say I Am Sorry. But This Goes Way, Way Beyond That. So If You Slept Good Last Night I Really Hope You Give Some Thought Tonight To Lets Say, Your Only Son, 18 Getting Blown Up In Nam Or You Sitting In A Wheel Chair With No Legs From The Time You Were 20 Yrs Of Age Till Now. Do You Sincerely Think You Would Feel The Same About Ms. Fonda's Apology??? Did You Ever Hold Another Young Boys Intestines In Your Hand And Try To Push Them Back In Hoping To Save His Life? Did You Have Ever Have A Friend Walk In Front Of You And Step On A Land Mine And Instantly Have His 2 Legs Blown Off. Have You Have Seen The Body Of A Half Of Man, Bleeding And In Agony And In Shock Without Legs??

And Kevin If None Of This You Understand Its Because You Can Never No The Horror Of Hell Unless You Spent Time In Hell. But Try This On This For Size. The Vc Who's Ass Jane Fonda Kissed Well, 1 Day Our Boys Went Into A Village To Administer Annoculation Shots To The Young Children To Guard Them Against Disease. That Night The Vc Went Into The Same Village And Cut Off The Arm Of Each Little Child Who Was Innoculated. Just 1 Of 7 Million Stories. Do You Still Feel "i',m Sorry" From Ms. Fonda Who Was An Adult Cuts It???? And Kevin If You Still Feel The Same Way I Respect Your Feelings, But I Will Tell You This, You Can Never No Hell Unless You Spent Some Time In It.

                              Tony,

I don't know what my good friend, Sam (aka Kevin), wrote to cause your response, because I refuse to read his rambling nonsense anymore. It's quite obvious that no matter what anyone says here, he's not going to change his position. I've finally figured out that he isn't worth wasting time over. Let him preach to an empty church. Those of us who were in Vietnam know what it was like, and someone like Sam (aka Kevin) will never understand. Therefore, as fas as I'm concerned, he isn't worth worrying about. Ignoring him makes TBN a much more enjoyable site! After all, he traded a Tbird for an SSR. That's got to tell you something about the guy. Maybe he and Jane can take a cruise in it, and drive off into the sunset together.

                              God bless you, Tony.
