Throwback Thursdays - A Trip Down TBN Memory Lane

We've only been on one, north by northwest and it was for a very short leg of it up in Nebraska (Dizzbe's territory at the time). My memorable moment was driving thru a native wild animal park and having to stop for a little bit to watch a couple of young bull bison having it out with each other as they headed in the direction to cross our path or make us part of their path. Then the old bull, having had enough of their shenanigans, and came out and sent them back into the herd and we were able to pass safely.

Jeannie and I were on of these. We missed Thunder across Texas and Thunder out West, both due to surgeries I endured at those times. As a side note, I think Jeannie and I can take credit for starting those trips when we went to Nova Scotia and asked anyone on TBN if they wanted to meet up for lunch somewhere.. Paul and Rosetta, and Bill Green and friend decided to join us on the trip which turned out to be fantastic. BTW, it should be noted that although we had all met at several small events and Florida Destination, we had never travelled together. We have since travelled over all 48 stated, most of Canada and 9 European Countries together. Bill missed Europe. Our travels couldn't have been better and the memories will stay with us all for life. What's better than that.

We have have been on five of those and we were on the launch of one more. All were great and included many great sites and adventures. The Northwest Angle comes to mind.

These magnets represent 10 years of major TBN road trips. While there have been several smaller travel events and caravans along the way, none can compare to the scope of these. The virus prevented us from continuing the tradition this year, but hopefully we'll be able to do another some day in the not too distant future.
Rosetta and I are the only ones that have been lucky enough to make all of these trips start to finish. We've covered almost every corner of the US, Canada from coast to coast and much of western Europe in a couple of red Thunderbirds. We could have never dreamed of that happening when we took delivery of our retro 19 years ago.
I'd be hard pressed to rate the trips from very best to least best, because they were all so different from each other, but I think I'll have to give EuroThunder the top spot on my list. The one constant has been the great friends we've been able to share them with. No matter who was able to go and who wasn't, we always had a wonderful time together.
If you were able to be a part of one or more of these travel events, tell us how many, which ones and, if you can, the one you liked the best. If you have a funny story from a trip feel free to throw that in, too.
Many thanks to Frits, Gene and Roger for doing the graphics for the magnets. I'm sure I drove each of you crazy while we were working on them.Last edited by 2K2BIRD; Oct 22, 2020, 06:25 AM.

The travel event after TBN 10 Thunder that included stops in the St Louis and Kansas City areas had a name and two special guests. What were the names of the event and the special guests?
I believe that the only ones that participated in both events have the last names of Davis, Applebaum and Thomas.
The name of the the event was: Show Me Thunder
The special guests were: Meidy and Jens Dreyer from Hanover, Germany. I enjoyed driving Meidy back from Daniel Boone's house to Eureka, MO.
That was quite a trip through Missouri, Paul!
Great FUN!Last edited by SugarDaddy; Oct 17, 2020, 01:20 PM.

They wanted to go to the west, but we explained there wasn't enough time to get there and back in the 5 days allotted, so we got as far as St. Louis. We showed them a lot of the southern mid-west during that trip and even took them to a major league baseball gam, (they thought it was boring).
Here's the event thread from back in the day:

The few of us that went had a great time. Who could ever forget the place we rented in Eureka, MO outside of St. Louis and our glass bedroom? Oh, the places we've been.
Can't wait for the stories to continue.....

Here's the story of the girl on the moon from the company:
She’s one of the most famous advertising icons of the past century, yet she remains an enigma. The Miller High Life Girl in the Moon has come to represent both the brand, and the company that created her.
Beer drinkers had their first taste of Miller High Life Beer on December 30, 1903; perhaps this proximity to New Year’s led to its being called the “Champagne of Bottle Beer”.
Soon after its release, the beer was advertised with a drawing of a woman in what looked like a circus costume, standing on a wooden High Life crate holding a tray of High Life Beer. Her whip and tall hat resembled a circus trainer or ringmaster.
In 1907, a change was made to the Miller Lady that created an enduring icon for the brand. She was placed on a crescent moon, complete with the whip and a bottle of High Life in her hand.
According to company legend, A.C. Paul, Miller’s advertising manager, was alone in the northwoods of Wisconsin—lost by one account—when he had a crystal-clear vision of the High Life Girl perched on the crescent moon. What’s not known is exactly how his vision became the actual Girl in the Moon shown in Miller advertising. Over the years, different branches of the Miller family have claimed various ancestors as the model, but none have been proven to be that lady. Recent research by family members of Illinois artist Thomas Holmes has turned up promising leads regarding his work in this area.
Because of grain shortages in World War II, in 1944 Miller Brewing Company president Elise John eliminated every brand except High Life, cut the advertising budget and pulled Miller out of seventeen states. Consumers rewarded this decision by choosing Miller over cheaper beers, and it confirmed Miller’s reputation for quality. At this same time, the appearance of the Miller Girl in the Moon was changed—to a woman facing forward, looking directly at the consumer.
Later, the Girl in the Moon disappeared from Miller High Life bottles and cans for a while, but she was brought back in 1998 and has remained there ever since.

These two pins were added to our trunk lid to represent a couple of different but similar tours we took as part of two separate events.
